David Hulme's Group Losing Members to Rod Meredith in Europe

As mentioned in an earlier post, the Church of God's are not growing because of new "worldly" members coming in, but are growing because of church poaching/hopping.

Global COG UK, has lost so many members over the last several years to be able to hold a Feast in the UK.

Even David Hulme's personality cult is losing members.  Slick magazines that  don't talk about God or Jesus until the last 2 or 3 paragraphs are not getting the message out.

The Global Church of God (aka Church of the Eternal God in the USA and Church of God a Christian Fellowship in Canada) will not be holding a Festival of Tabernacles in the UK for the first time since the church’s inception in 1993.

When Roderick Meredith found himself unable to exert full control over the church, he established the Living Church of God, and then left Global in November 1998, together with over 70% of the ministers and members. The remnant splintered, with some re-grouping, but the UK (plus congregations in Belgium and France) remained intact as Global.

Global has declined steadily, and now comprises only a nominal congregation in Derby, England. The Living Church of God in Europe has been a mirror image of Global, rising from almost nothing to over 200 attending Sabbath services today – albeit the large majority have been transfers from the Global church and David Hulme’s Church of God an International Community.

Today's Kewpie Doll Award Winner
Kewpie Doll:  A small inexpensive and cheaply made doll given as a prize for winning a game at an amusement park or fair or given as a consolation prize. A sarcastic term to denote a figurative prize (not actually given) for either accomplishing or not accomplishing a trivial goal, such as attempting to spell an easy word or guessing the answer to some trivial question.

Doug Winnail at Living Church of God had some precise words for Dave Pack and his grandiose reunification project.  Rod Meredith is one of the men that Dave's god is  supposedly going to kill by August 31, 2013.

“While some critics and self-appointed prophets and apostles continue to predict the imminent demise of the Living Church of God, these predictions are simply not connected to reality…

Chairman Malm's " Little Feast Book"

If I had to choose only one word to summarize James Malm, that word would be "INTENSE." For all the regulars here who have been cleared and approved by James and are definitely going to be attending with him this year (LOL), you will need to spend every waking moment between now and the feast preparing to be unassailable during one of the most intense and grueling phases of your Armstrongite career, but just 9 average days in the life of Apostle Malm. Once you arrive, it will be too late to fix anything that you may have overlooked preparing for, and as you face the withering force of Malm's interrogation, any oversight on your part may get you dismembered and sent to the lake of fire on the spot. And we wouldn't want that to happen, now would we?

To help everyone out, I've put together this handy feastgoer's cheat-sheet, which will help you keep the most crucial pet doctrines in mind during your oral exams. I guarantee you, you're definitely not going to want to forget to bring this with you.

Here's your Cliff Notes for the most important pet doctrines James Malm will be strictly enforcing for 9 days straight at his Oregon concentration camp. Think of it as similar to Chairman Mao's "Little Red Book", except in this case, you're dealing with Chairman Malm. Good luck, comrade!

"Focus on the "spiritual" by focusing on the physical letter of the law, while trying avoiding everything else physical"
  • "God uses the physical to teach us spiritual lessons." (That's why we should focus exclusively on the letter of Old Testament laws.)
  • "The majority of the churches have been converted into social clubs, fellowship and fun, and have pushed aside the spiritual focus. This even has happened with the observance of the Holy Days of God."
  • "[They] are to be filled with "spiritual" feasting*, with physical feasting**, song, music and dancing*** for joy**** in the Lord."

**** Joy: Don't be tricked by Satan into confusing "joy" with "fun"
  • "The real issue is around today’s resort non-Feasts which are vacations with the excuse of a biblical Feast."
  • "We are commanded to spend our tithe on [minimal] food and drink and sharing with others, not on expensive vacations."
  • "Feast sites are NOT to be established in vacation hot spots."
  • "Feast sites should be in poorer areas with no outside attractions."
  • "They are NOT to be spent in paragliding, car racing, or other activities..." (sermons and bible study ONLY!)
Warning: When James Malm uses the word "joy" he is not using it in any traditional sense. It is more akin to type of "joy" experienced by Jews and Russians who had the opportunity to be made "free" through "work" during WWII.

Zeal!
  • "Truly many are all wrapped up in themselves and want to try do an absolute minimum to just get by."
  • "Most people are doing what they are told and not because they love pleasing God, or because these festival messages are so inspiring." (And they certainly are inspiring. NOT!)
  • "Where is the true passionate love that says, 'How can I please you my Lord?' Where is the going the extra mile to please God?"
  • If you're finding it hard to get excited about ancient obsolete laws, then you are a BAD person.
  • If the feast doesn't feel like a burden, rest assured, you're doing it wrong!

* "Spiritual" feasting: Give me 9 days straight and I'll give you the letter of the law."

  • "At the 2013 Feast I want to study the Ten Commandments. This week’s material, and the covering of the other laws, statutes and judgments in Leviticus and Numbers, completes the whole Commandments and Law study."
  • "Please be aware that this will be a Feast somewhat different from the traditional WCG."
  • "The Sermons and Bible Studies will be consistent with the teaching on this blog." (Facepalm...)
  • "It will be a Feast of much strong "spiritual" meat; not a vacation in some tourist site."
  •  "You can be sure that presentations will be full of meat and not long-winded, boring; same old, same old." (Yeah, right.)
  • "The Feast will be about making the most of our time for "spiritual" instruction." (24/9 wall-to-wall sermons/bible studies about keeping the physical letter of Old Testament laws.)
  • "I am not a trained speaker...the content is most important...The delivery will improve [eventually]..." (Zzz)
  • Prepare to be inspired by browbeating harangues for 192 hours nonstop!
  • Forget about spirit, intent, practicality, or sensibility. It's all about rote, unthinking, literal, physical, strict pharisaical obedience to more arbitrary and obsolete "commandments" than you could possibly wave a stick at.
  • Do NOT expect to hear any messages about mercy, forgiveness, or Jesus, as such topics encourage a lack of "zeal."

"Chairman Malm:  100% Agreement ONLY! Dissent “WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!""
  • "This site is reserved for those who have proved the doctrine at this site to [James Malm's] personal satisfaction and are solidly on board."
  • "Sacred Names people and others who want to attend only to push heresies will NOT BE TOLERATED." (Malm's ex-wife is NOT welcome.)
  • "Larry has taken a stand on the calendar, however he does not agree on the meanings of the Festivals etc, and has said that he will not attend our Feast site because I will not allow dissent." (Larry is NOT welcome.)
  • "One Strike and You're Out" policy. (You will become instantly NOT welcome.)
  • No fake 'love love' unity will be permitted, or Satanic unity through pagan hand holding.
  • If you don't feel like you're walking on eggshells or navigating a minefield, rest assured, you're doing it wrong!
** Physical" feasting: Eating, drinking, and other pleasurable indulgences during the feast
  • "Church people even purchase goods and services on Sabbath and Holy Days, especially in restaurants...FOR SHAME!" (If I could choose a second word, it would be “shame.”)
  • "Seek a room with a kitchenette." (You will NOT be eating out during the feast!)
  • "If that is not possible a small cooler to keep a few perishables overnight."
  • "A simple mid day meal of a salad, a pear, and some Edam cheese." (It’s very important that the cheese be Edam…)
  • "All grocers have very convenient ready to eat choices from veggies and dip plates, to readymade salads, fruit, sandwiches, cookies and sweets, cheeses, bread, etc."
  • "This will not be...a feast of booze; it will be a [purely figurative] feast at the table of the Lord."
  • Curtail wasting too much time indulging in physical pleasures such as eating and sleeping, or nonessentials such as bathing and tooth brushing, because these are needless distractions that take time away from focusing on god and his word during the feast.
  • The less time you waste eating, the less time you will waste in the bathroom, as it is not proper to read the bible while pooping.
  • Other pleasurable indulgences, such as having sex with one's wife or with a prostitute, are frowned upon even during non-holy time.
Traveling to the feast
  • "Staying in a motel is not a problem as we pay and get settled BEFORE any Sabbath or High Day."
  • "Arrive early enough to take care of all necessaries before the first High Day or Sabbath."
  • "Inform them that no service will be needed on Sabbaths or High Days; which usually delights them."
  • "People claiming to be converted Godly people have paid bills, packed belongings, cleaned their temporary dwellings and traveled on this High Holy Day...This is a DISGRACE and a blot on your garments."
  • Always remember the 3 most important words in Malmism: Preparation, preparation, preparation!
Accommodations
  • "If we all camped on a local farm and met in the barn and truly kept the Feast rejoicing together; what would it matter if we stayed a day beyond what we calculated?"
  • "If funds are a major problem [you] might consider camping out on [your] farms or in [your] back yards."
  • While on the farm, one should probably be careful not to accidentally feed or milk the animals or accidentally spread physical manure on the sabbath (but spreading spiritual manure is okay).
  • "Those who have nowhere to go, might chose to go to a place where they can study intensely without the distractions of the many carnal activities usually associated with the modern feast observance."
  • "Apartment dwellers might, as a last resort only; set up a tent indoors to [physically] act out the analogy of being travelers in a strange land." (???Why???)
  • Whatever you do, ignore the biblical commandment to build a booth!
Proper attire
Men:
  • "Tzitzit fringes have been superseded by the holy spirit which it represents. However the fringe is certainly lawful and desirable. It is highly likely that this will be required like circumcision, in the coming Kingdom of God and  I would never object to anyone who chooses to wear one."
  • "The uncovering of a man’s head, and that does not mean the shaving of his head, but the removal of the hat or covering; was a sign of courteous respect for God."
  • "We are not to cut our hair or beard in the fashion of making our face look deliberately circular as a sun symbol."
  • "we are not to shave round circles on our hair as sun symbols and we are not to shave our heads and beards in mourning."
  • To be clean shaven is okay (drapes, not carpet).
  • No word from James about whether a suit and tie is required, or if some ancient robe or tunic is more proper for appearing in before god. Somehow, I doubt James owns any nice looking clothes.
  • Do not wear a phylactery, tefillin or frontlet. (Please leave these at home.)
Women:
  • "Feminine hair...should be covered in a gesture of modesty and respect for her husband, when she prays or discusses the word of God." (24/9 during the feast.)
  • "[A married woman] removing or refusing to wear a covering veil represented an unfaithful wife, a fallen woman, an adulteress...For a woman to go uncovered was to be seen as a rebellious or adulterous wife...a lewd woman is to have her veil removed..."
  • "[Women] are simply not to cut our hair into anything resembling a 'masculine' style."
  • No unclean furs such as mink, but unclean furs such as badger may be okay since they were used in making the OT tabernacle. Furs and makeup are probably signs of feminism.
  • "I am amazed at the number of strapless dresses, mini-hemlines, plunging necklines, and sprayed-on applicator dresses that are worn for purposes of worship."
  • Wearing a burkah might be interpreted as a sign of a bad attitude. (Please leave these at home.)
The blowing of shofars
  • "There is no excuse not to obey the commandments and observe this Feast as God has commanded! With Shofar, Shoutings and Rejoicings!"
  • If you are one of the rare individuals in modern society who does not already own a shofar, you'd better order one now, because a shofar and an offering are the two items you are definitely not going to want to show up without.
The waving of branches

  • "Here we have a direct command to take branches and to rejoice with them for seven days."
  • "Boughs or branches of goodly trees are to be cut on the very first day, the High Holy day of this Feast."
  • "The palm and willow are specifically mentioned, however we are NOT told that these branches are limited to the palm and willow."
  • "The branches [people] represent the main harvest of humanity being brought into the Temple [family] of God."
  • "We are to rejoice with our branches; to represent the great rejoicing as the main harvest of humanity is brought into the family of God!"
  • "if [you don't do this] you are losing out on a valuable lesson and much understanding of the meaning of this Feast."
  • It isn't clear exactly what "valuable lesson" one might learn from stick waving, but perhaps James will clue in the elect to this esoteric knowledge during the feast.
  • Just to be safe, you might want to go online to the Jewish websites and order your citron, or etrog, now. The good ones go first. Any observant Jew knows that your branches are meaningless without your citron.
*** "Davidic" dancing vs. "carnal" dancing
  • "Biblical dancing was never this touchy feely embracing dancing...not the ballroom dancing style...and not the usual COG big band carnal dance at the Feasts."
  • "Dancing before the Lord as David involved songs of praise and dancing for joy in the Eternal."
  • "It was always dancing as an expression of joy closer to the Jewish dancing or a kind of leaping for joy and rejoicing before God. We should be doing that at the Feasts."
  • "This is too energetic for Sabbath but excellent for the middle Feast days."
No word from James about whether it is proper or improper to "shamelessly uncover" oneself as David did.

Prayer
  • "Prayer is degraded into an emotional experience; indeed much such prayer is not to seek God, but to impress those present by voluminous flowery and impressive language."
  • "Hand holding is a definite emotional bonding between people; instead of a personal contact with Almighty God...The pagan concept behind this tradition is to demonstrate UNITY by holding hands together."
  • "Hand holding is most definitely wrong and has its roots in witchcraft."

As you attend the Feast-gulag 2013 with James Malm, not only will it be a time of mind-numbing agony, you'll also know you're pleasing god. How can you be so sure? Because Chairman Malm said so, and he certainly sounded sure when he said it. Imagine being sequestered away with these jokers who have self-selected themselves as some of the most judgmental people in all of Armstrongism. It promises to seem like an eternity of cloistered boredom, pointless study, minimal food and drink, and a vow of poverty. Obviously this is the perfect preparation to acclimatize you to the kind of happiness, fun, and excitement you can endure all the time in the wonderful kingdom of god you're preparing to be imprisoned in forever. With James Malm, you never have to worry about what happens when you die, you're as good as dead already. Don't forget to smile, comrade!

Something James Malm is blind to is how truly odd and unusual he is. He assumes he's an average specimen, but he is ANYTHING BUT normal. His eccentric lifestyle might compensate for his emotional deficits and chemical imbalances, but normal people could NEVER live such a suffocating and INTENSE lifestyle. How many repeat priso-, um, customers do you think James Malm will have at next year's concentration camp, once they fully realize the mistake they made by coming the first time?

As you prepare for James Malm's first feast, here's a little song you can hum to put you in the mood and inspire a little "feast fever."

Accentuate the Physical
by Johnny Mercer & The Pied Pipers

Gather 'round me, everybody
Gather 'round me while I'm preachin'
Feel a sermon comin' on me
The topic will be sin and that's what I'm ag'in'
If you wanna hear my story
Then settle back and just sit tight
While I start reviewin'
The attitude of doin' righteous

You've got to ac-cen-tu-ate the physical
E-lim-inate the spiritual
Latch on to the negative
Don't mess with the Apostle In-Between

You've got to spread gloom up to the maximum
Bring "fun" down to the minimum
Have zeal or tribulation is
Liable to walk upon the scene

To illustrate my last remark
Herbert and Dave Pack, Malm and Roderick
What did they do
just when everything looked so dark?

Man, they said:

We'd better ac-cen-tu-ate the physical
E-lim-inate the spiritual
Latch on to the negative
Don't mess with the Apostle In-Between

You've got to spread gloom up to the maximum
Bring "fun" down to the minimum
Have zeal or tribulation is

Feast Gifts!!!!

I still have that picture in my head of going into my 12ish year old son's room and upon exiting seeing countless small pieces of paper taped to the back of his door.  It was the moment I recognized my kids actually did look forward to the "Feast."  He had a piece of paper for each day left until the next festival and removed one every day in countdown fashion.  Even I never did that with Christmas!

Years later, that same son, now with his own family and far removed from the Church stopped at Jekyll Island Feast site and just stood in the back recalling what he perceived as his good old days.  Then he left.

But of all things, it was those "Feast Gifts" we gave them along the way that were the stuff their memories were made of.  For kids, it was the substitute for not keeping Christmas of course.  It was even better than Christmas we would tell them to lessen the downer it must have been when they actually came upon the Christmas season.  I grew up with Christmas as did most of us, but it was not actually the big deal to me that "The Feast" was to be in my WCG experience.  Today one son is a non church participant and we have a good relationship and my oldest is a practicing Catholic who enjoys the stabililty and form the church has to offer.  When he was in catechism class he'd call me to ask stuff like,  "now tell me the story of _____________ in the Bible, so I can get through these classes ,  and don't tell me whether it really happened or not!"   :)

Preacher Boys (Stuff Fundies Like)

Of course it was not really the Feast, i.e, Church, they were excited about. It certainly was not the sitting or the "happy" hymns.   It was not the sermonette that so often seemed, to me, like a time wasting filler so we could say we spent a lot of time at church.  It probably was not the special music unless they were stuck doing it with YES/YOU choirs.  Lord knows it was not the sermons, but I have to say as well that, in spite of enjoying my youthful experience growing up in the Presbyterian Church, I cannot recall one sermon ever given either.  I do remember in detail the picnics, hayrides and Boy Scouts sponsored by the church.

But as the years have worn on and those times are past, it occurs to me, after seeing such craziness in religion as represented by the James Malm, Gerald Flurry and Dave Pack types, I thought it might be good to encourage everyone associated with these under trained, over funded and ego centric know nothings some Feast gifts that would probably do them some good.  As Dave Pack might say,  "I don't think I have ever received a Feast quite like this before.  Maybe I did once,  but nothing quite like this.

"When it comes right down to it, being lied to about Santa Clause did far less damage in my life than being lied to about 1975."

There is a great post on All About Armstrongism today about the Church of God's greatest LIE that was fostered off on tens of thousands of gullible members are pure truth.

The Church for generations taught the “evils of Christmas” to the Church, condemning it with fervor and blasting out about how “Satanic” the day was,, it’s origins, “Saturnalia”, and of course, teaching how it was lying to their children about Santa Clause.

Truth is, they really needed to shut up about it – they were involved in their own lying. Even Herbert Armstrong said they got “carried away”. And the subject to bring that point home is 1975.

1975 is one of Armstrongism’s biggest embarrassments. And biggest fears. With members fearing losing 1/3 of “their friends” that they knew at that time (which was stated with certainty in the book) to world disasters on Armageddon proportions,  they were scared. Scared stiff. Some to the point where they had everything packed and ready to go. Children were told that they would have to leave “at any time”. Some children were so scared of this, they were literally traumatized at that time – mostly by the fearfulness and panic of some very zealous parents who listened – and believed wholeheartedly – to the patently false speculations of Herbert Armstrong, who, according to an article in “Tomorrow’s World” magazine published by the Church, “regretted it deeply”, regarding the church’s – as he called it “appearance” or “coming close to” setting dates.

Ron Weinland: Ron Writes About Sex While In Prison

$
0
0

It's a well known fact that many times when people scream and shout about something they hate, they are actually dipping into the pie they claim to despise.  It is also a well know fact that those incarcerated in prison for long periods of time turn their sexual thoughts over to other things.

Weinerdude is back with his latest missal about sex.  Why are all the  Armstrongite ministurds that lead the various splinter groups sooooooooooooooooooo occupied with sex?

Has his time being incarcerated with Big Bubba brought some sexual thoughts into Weinerdudes head?  Does Laura, the 2nd Witness, and devoted spender of tithe money have some competition right now?

Weinerdude, or as he is affectionately known on other boards as Conland Swineland, truly has to be the biggest idiots the Church of God has right now.  He writes some of the most incredibly stupid things possible and the fact that there are a small group of people who believe his stuff show how sick a COG mind can get.
“Therefore God also gave them over to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts (which becomes magnified by hormones) to dishonor their own bodies between themselves. Who changed the truth of God into a lie…” (Rom. 1:24-25).

"The more that people turn to sin (any kind of sin), the more unsound and distorted their thinking, choices, and behavior becomes toward the subject of sex. Sin distorts and perverts all thinking, but it is more manifest in the area of sexual thought, emotion, and conduct. The product of this “wrong thinking” regarding sex then leads to distorted judgment, feelings (emotion), and communications in relationships. Through Paul, God reveals part of this process and correlation in thinking and behavior.

"This process begins by people moving farther away from living in agreement to the awesomely beautiful enhancement to the marriage relationship that God created mankind to be able to experience together as husband and wife. Marriage between a man and a woman was created to be the closest and most important relationship that mankind is able to experience in all human relationships. The sexual part of that relationship is an important part of the overall relationship and reveals much about each individual separately and also the ability of both (as a couple) becoming “one” as family. The sexual relationship between one man and one woman in marriage was created to be natural, healthy, beautiful, endearing, binding, and exciting in producing one of the most giving and receiving experiences that two people can share together in life."
"Finally, however, what has changed over the past century due to a world cursed with greed and misuse of scientific knowledge, the world today is plagued with an over abundance of dangerous chemicals that can and do alter the proper healthy functioning of the human body that God so perfectly created to exist in a physical world. Large quantities of chemicals are added to foods we eat, ingested or injected as medications or used in other medically evasive practices, as well as the excessive use of chemicals in every imaginable area of agriculture. Animals are given medications, steroids (growth hormones), and other growth altering drugs, which then enter the food chain as meat, milk, eggs, etc. The genetics of plants (for produce, grains, etc.) have been altered (unnatural) which humans then consume. Although everyone is assured that these are “safe,” these were not what God created the human body to consume or be exposed to.

"This cycle goes on and on, but it has produced changes in the children being born and changes in children as their bodies are growing and many of these very things actually work to alter the chemical makeup in a person (hormone production as an example, and other chemical regulators of the human body and mind) which can produce a different sex mindset than what one has been born with physically. Such things are also the cause of many diseases and illnesses. Many know as young children that they are different and think differently than much of society around them. Today, we are all the product of a cursed and sick world (physically, mentally, and spiritually), which is the product of 6,000 years of mankind’s rejection of God.

"As the subject of homosexuality has just been addressed, it also needs to be stated that having such feelings, emotions and pulls are not sins, but the practice and lust of it is sin. This is just as true for those who are naturally drawn to those of the opposite sex. Such is not sin, but the practice of sexual relations outside of marriage is sin, as is lust and the fantasizing that is so often associated with it."

"Where in the World are The Splinters?"

"In six short weeks, the “Church of God landscape” will forever change. Saturday, August 31 will be a Sabbath unlike any other in history. It will be the first time in decades that all of God’s people around the world will be meeting together in the same locations for services. Words cannot describe the excitement and happiness that will be everywhere soon after this reunification. In many areas, much of or possibly even entire congregations might “roll over” into The Restored Church of God. Brethren will have had weeks to prepare for this and to “consider their ways” before God. Those who come will have been led to return to the Body of Christ the day before this Sabbath. Reread this last sentence."

Well, here we are.  Getting into the last week of August and still nothing much on the horizon as far as Exodus 2013 is concerned.  At least nothing visible on my end.  I can't imagine if there had not been some major defections especially by men of renoun, Dave would not have spoken up to at least use it for advertising and propaganda.  I could be wrong.  Maybe there are lines of ministers right now being processed and tested , hidden away in sound proof booths with their cell phones confiscated.

24 Unreasonable Reasonings
As we enter the last week of August, where Dave Pack has proved beyond all doubt  the amazing Church of God events and reunification that will occur as spoken of by the Minor Prophet Haggai about Dave Pack himself, let's take one final look at the "proof" for all of  this.  Shortly, it will matter not one bit and some will have some 'splanin to do.

Dave writes:
The Time Is NOW!
"Now comes a series of reasons Haggai’s prophecy will be fulfilled this year. They are summarized, with only a very little detail added. More could be said of each, but the descriptions given will suffice to those willing to think just a little about them. Realize there are over 30 more reasons—many of them very powerful—that I have left off the list because some will be covered later or because they would only be recognized as proofs by our Headquarters ministry (involving various miracles, some big). Readers would be largely unable to appreciate them as proofs:"

Dave loves numbered reasons for everything.  30 Proofs of This and 90 Proofs of That are a common approach in his sermons.  Let's take a look.

1) Understanding the meaning of the prophecy, starting with Haggai 1:2, automatically carries the requirement of taking a position on it. This cannot be avoided after one learns it. Think about this....

This assumes there is "understanding" or the understanding is correct to begin with. Dave's view of himself in Haggai as "Joshua" is not correct.  I guarantee you it is not correct.  A genuine understanding of the content and intent of the Book of Haggai guarantees you that Dave has gotten off to a very bad start in all this. I can take this position and be correct where Dave says if you don't agree, you are on the outside of his truth.

2) Directly related, why (or how) would God command the remnant to “Go…build the House!” (Hag. 1:8)—but not mean NOW? How could He mean some undetermined future year? Why would God tell them (twice) to “consider their ways”—but not mean that they should do this now? Try to imagine God saying, “Consider your ways, but take your time. There’s no hurry. In fact, take years to think it over—even though you have been out of My Church for 20 years! You don’t have to DO anything now.”

Well...the entire New Testament is filled with our infamous "time is short," "the hour now is," " of things which must shortly come to pass," and "the day is far spent" comments about just how soon Jesus is coming. Of course that has been 2000 now years so I'd not get to excited about if God would inspire comments or scripture and not meant "Now."   Try to imagine God saying the above statements and saying "Behold I come quickly but  I'm taking my time. I am in no hurry."  Well actually I can imagine that.

3) Also related, if God waited 2,500 years to reveal the prophecy’s meaning (3,000 years when various related much older Psalms are considered), is not His waiting done? Does His revealing it not signal that He has reached the time to fulfill it rather than having reached a point one, two or three years out?

See answer 2

4) Next, why would God wait longer? What would He wait for? The remnant is absolutely ripe for deliverance.

Why not. See answer 2.  There is plenty of proof that God says soon and means later. People are always ripe.

5) Internally, and this is no small thing, God’s Church is truly ready to expand the Work in a BIG WAY. The prophecy features this as the MAIN PURPOSE of the remnant returning! Without the prophecy’s fulfillment, this expansion would be delayed one year—or more! Why would God notify His Church of the prophecy’s existence at the very same time our staff is ready, our websites are ready, our literature is ready and even God’s college is ready for more students if the prophecy were not imminent? Why would God notify His Church if HE were not ready?

There is NO connection between any organization "being ready" and being the organization that is the correct one to be ready.  The Catholic Church has awesome resources and is a bit more "ready" than Dave to do great things which does not prove any Deity is obligated to use them.  Dave is assuming these things mean the Deity IS notifying Dave when it seems Dave is actually notifying the Deity.

Circular Reasoning…… | Wildomar Magazine

6) Related to this, the buildings on our campus can very soon handle significantly more staff than we have now. This is already true without the other two buildings scheduled for completion in the late fall. However, this extra size works perfectly if the prophecy occurs this year.

The Mega-Church down the road from Dave Pack and The Restored Church of God could hold all his buildings within itself.  I had dinner at Christ Church Episcopal Church, Elementary, Middle and High School this week and the Restored Church is nothing. Size matters...

7) Also related, but separate, our infrastructure is ready to receive and serve a much larger flock this fall! This includes field ministry being ready, but also other things.

So what...see #6

8) Maturing interest from many in the world due to one year of explosive television expansion requires many more laborers in the ministry by this autumn.

Let's see the numbers.  How many maturing interests?  How many members make up Restored Church as of today?  How many visit requests?  How many ministers do you have and what are their names?  Where are your current churches?  How much did RCG take in last year?  Co Worker types?   We need to have you be about the numbers on this one.  What does "explosive" mean?

9) The Restored Church of God is experiencing an AWESOME period of growth and development at this time—in the runup period just prior to the prophecy’s fulfillment. This is putting it mildly! To us, this is powerful indication that we are on the right track for this year—that God is not only pleased with His Church, but that He is helping it get ready.

"To us..." is very telling.  That is not the same as "God is..."  By these standards, God is pleased with many churches.  God is well pleased with Joel Olsteen and Benny Hinn.

10) If the prophecy did not happen this year, the remnant would remain another year (or more) undergoing ever worsening false ways. Worse off, they would have a commensurate shorter time to spiritually recover before the Tribulation. Think worse condition, less time to recover.

Any you know this?  Soaking in "false ways" is what humans do for thousands of years on end. One more won't hurt.  I'm suspecting Dave might be concerned about one year with him having less access to their money. Could be just me.

Before You Accuse Someone of Circular Reasoning, Make Sure You Are

11) If reunification occurred next year (or any year after), those with God’s Spirit would have one more year cut off from God’s Church. This carries the potential for more to quench the Holy Spirit (I Thes. 5:19) and lose salvation.

So what Dave?  That is not your responsibility.  You sound as if only you have the power to bring them in now so such things don't occur.  If any Deity wanted them to not suffer another year's loss, he/she knows how to finish the good work done in them I'm pretty sure, if I recall scripture correctly.  You're not the mother.

12) The readers of the Haggai prophecy announcements (this is #21) who believed them would be the most disillusioned and the biggest candidates to QUIT everything if God did not return His people to one House this year! This would work directly against what God is doing—directly opposite His overall purpose.

Now you have hit the nail on the head.  And they will be the most disillusioned.  But who wants illusions anyway so it's a good thing.  Dave is  skating on thin ice this reason.  This may be the only real prophecy he makes that actually comes true.

13) Further desolation (Hag. 1:11; 2:16-17) from God of the splinter “houses” would practically wipe out the few remaining senior leaders in them. This includes pastors and elders, all of whom are NEEDED TO CARRY OUT THE BIG WORK!

So what.  "God is able of these stone to raise up..."  I think Dave wants the instant version of things and few organizations , if any, materialize instantly manned and ready to go.  Setting dates, times and seasons where something "must" happen is going to prove a dangerous game and huge mistake.  It's called a Weinlander in COG code.

14) The onset of all future years would never come with clarity—with any certainty! Would God leave thousands who are now aware of this prophecy in such a condition? Hardly.

Like it has to date?  This is a ridiculous reasoning.  In the New Testament all the Apostles and zealous unnamed deacons, elders, and members were dead wrong about the times they lived in.  Paul was totally wrong about Jesus return and had to eat crow at the end of his life claiming "there is laid up for me....." before he died. That original debacle has indeed made all future years unclear which is why thousands of humans have predicted the end that never comes over the past 2000 of them. It's reasonable to see the rise of "scoffers."  They really are just noticing reality.

15) Next, for those who will see the value of how to pursue spiritual matters, there is this: After fervently seeking God about it, not one reason the prophecy is off this year ever emerged in the minds of even one of our 16 Headquarters ministers! I (we) have NEVER prayed about, studied over, meditated on, fasted about and counseled with other ministers regarding a subject more than this one—in fact no other subject is even close!

Oh mercy Lord Jesus.  Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot and Stalin were very confident of their decisions for the very same reasons.  I think we know why.  Praying and studying "fervently" is no proof of being correct.  I had done that for years over many topics all of which fell apart.  "Dear Lord, please bless the work and guide Mr. Armstrong" and "Help me to be the best minister for your people" come to mind.  Time would fail to speak of fervent prayer for children dying who died anyway.  Besides, your 16 headquarters types know not to cross Dave.

16) Similarly, as questions emerged throughout our pursuit of truth with the many details of the prophecy, so many of these details kept coming clear as direct answers to prayer. And these were often immediate.

Edgar  Cayce got details quickly too.  Dirrhea can hit suddenly and immediately but that is not a sign of good digestion.

17) Recall Haggai 1:13: “Then spoke Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people…” Haggai is the messenger to God’s people, with what is an all-important message from God. Would not God make clear in such a unique message He describes as “the Lord’s message unto His people” the correct date for action? What kind of message would it be if people did not know WHEN TO CARRY IT OUT?

You keep repeating this "would not God ...if it wasn't" thing.  This is not a new reason.  Besides, the "his people" were the Jews of Haggai's time because why would God say that in Haggai to his people if he did not mean his people then?  Why would "his people'" be people 2500 years into the future.  I'm using your own reasoning here Dave.

18) Since the apostasy, God had not wanted the remnant back in His Church, but now He does. He would first reveal the remnant to His leader, then tell him how they would return, and finally that He meant NOW. This was the order in which these things became apparent.

Yikes...and you know this?  So we've gone through all this so you could be God's man when God got around to it and THEN we get some relief?  I think Dave tends to tell the Deity what must be and when and not the other way around.  This "his leader" thing is troubling.  It is one of the few times Dave won't say "me."  Is this wiggle room?

19) Imagine God not revealing the year the remnant is coming—but only the day and month. Vast amounts of time would have been wasted by His leaders studying and preparing for something that was not imminent. Would God put His Church in such a position?

This of course assume God revealed any actual day or month.  Vast amounts of time are being wasted.  God put the early church in just such a position by turning "soon" into "but a day with the Lord is as a thousand years....and a thousand years as a day."  This is called an apologetic.  It was written in II Peter, not by Peter but later by church leader types who to reexplain the first century debacle of "soon" and "time is short."  Not to mention, "of things which must shortly come to pass."

20) Of interest, God revealed to me during ELUL four years ago my role as the modern Joshua.

Gotcha!  If God revealed this to Dave four years ago, would not God have revealed it to the church four years ago? Why would God reveal it if it was not the time to tell everyone?  I'm just using Dave's reasoning on other proofs.  Was it in a vision?  Was it in a dream?   Tell us this reveal story please.  Or did Dave just read the Bible and say, "hey...that's ME!"

21) Also of interest, I and The Restored Church of God learned about the New Testament remnant last ELUL (August). Let’s ask: Would timing of when we were shown the prophecy not be tied to its unique timing of fulfillment during the very next available ELUL?

This is not interesting at all.   I'm wondering of some lackey and kiss up told Dave that he was Joshua and that was the starting point.  HWA never thought of being a Apostle until someone told him he was one.  It was all downhill from there. See # 19 and # 20

22) We might ask: does the DEVIL know the prophecy is on? For those who understand how the devil works—that he counterfeits EVERYTHING God does—a variety of counterfeit theories have recently appeared about how God is going to reunite His people. Should not the devil be expected to do this at the time it would cause the most confusion? You will soon see that most of these theories are coming from men standing on the wrong side of this prophecy.

Maybe the others have it right and Dave is the Devil's version?  Maybe pots are calling kettles black here?  I think we will soon see that Dave is standing in the muck of prophecy up to his eyeballs.

23) With God’s people split up, it is now almost impossible to do a powerful Work. (This might be the one area where the splinter leaders would agree.) God’s Church is largely stymied in working with both brethren and the world because of the confusion and deception from top leaders about where God’s Church is, who has the truth, who is carrying on after Mr. Armstrong, who is doing the true Work, etc. (Reread #22.) There is no other way to proceed than for God to remove leaders who have lulled with deceit many thousands who were blind (Rev. 3:17) to begin with.

Unless of course none of you matter to any Deity and you are on the wrong tracks theologically to begin with.

24) World conditions cry out for a big Work NOW!!!—not one or more years from now.

World conditons have always cried out "NOW"     "How long oh Lord wilt thou not avenge...." comes to mind.  That was 2000 years ago as well.  Actually world conditions cry out for "way back then."

So there you have it.  Dave calls these reasonings "powerful."  I don't.  When the premise is wrong everything that follows is as well.  This is a great example of this. Why bring this up now again?  Because in a mere 10 days none of this will matter.  Life will go on.  The world will have it's problems.  The economy will get closer to tanking and more people will get tazed for talking back to cops.  But the road to Wadsworth will be crowded on Saturday with folk going to Walmart, not church.

The apostle Malm, the Church of God's greatest Pharisee and promoter of legalistic bullshit has announced the name of his new "fund raising" organization.  Since the guy has not had a steady job in several years and spends all day dreaming up the next legalistic claptrap to burden his members with, this will turn into his own personal bank account.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:   The new tax exempt fund raising organization in the United States, named   ”Gospel Outreach International”  has been approved.  More information will be announced as soon as a mailing address and bank account have been set up.

James Malm: God Calls People To Start Splinter Groups Without Having Hands Laid Upon Them (Like Me)

Here is how James Malm and Bob Thiel get around the fact that neither of them are ordained yet now run splinter groups:

The laying on of hands sanctifies the sacrifice; and from this we have the doctrine of the laying on of hands.  I will; cover this doctrine another time, but I will say that men can and often do wrongfully lay hands on others; and that God does call people to jobs personally without the laying on of hands by men.
However, Malm also takes a swipe at his arch competitor, Bob Thiel, and his silly claim that when he was blessed by an LCG minister that it was a "double blessing"  and therefor he was set apart by God to form his own splinter personality cult.

So there you have it, justification that allows you to start your own group without being ordained. I can see the money starting to roll in!

James Malm Now Telling His Acolytes How To Cook Meat

The legalistic bullshitter, James Malm, has to control everything a person does from the kitchen to the bedroom.  Right now he is going through the book of Leviticus trying to prove that everything is still applicable to today. I guess apostle Malm won't be eating any blood pudding.

The burning of the fat or kidneys in the Peace Offering indicates that the fat and kidneys belong to God.  The eating of fat or blood is expressly forbidden for the people of God.

3:17It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

We need not work to remove every speck of marbling, however we should trim off obvious fat from meat and buy extra lean ground meat.  The extra lean ground meat can be improved by adding an egg and bread crumbs, or a dash of olive oil and our favorite spice.  It would also be proper to avoid deliberately high animal fat products like sausages.

WE should wash our meat and remove all possible blood.

Some Final Thoughts on August 2013 From a Restored State of Mind

I would like to take a moment to refine David C. Pack's view on "Why would God command the rebuilding of the House (i.e. The Temple of the 500's BCE) and not mean NOW?" which to him means during the month of August 2013 and culminating the last Sabbath of that month.

I think we can see that in the course of his meanderings over his role in religion and the role of the Restored Church of God in Ecclesiastical History, Dave has had to make the leap from the ACTUAL meaning of Haggai and the ACTUAL people it was written to THEN, to making it mean what it did not mean THEN to what it must mean NOW.  Review his Screeds 1-25 if you wish to see how this miracle occurred.

Following is key argument  and belief on why God MUST mean THIS August (Elul) and why it all MUST mean it as some vast 2500 year old ultimate fulfillment and meaning of what Haggai could never have understood.  After the huge leap of logic from Haggai's actual time in history to Dave's perceived analogy of the real meaning of it all, you can make Haggai easily mean what it never meant by analogy to many churches, ministers and theological needs of today.  Dave simply has woven his own tale and I suppose actually believes it or he would not risk what is about to come upon his credibility as "one who knows."

I will plainly state that Dave Pack is terribly wrong in how he has looked at Haggai's message to the literal remnant back then.  By his own reasonings of how it must apply to  him, his Restored Church of God and the WCG experience in the Wild World of Religion, the very book of Haggai must apply then and not today unless you just wish to make it one big analogy.  I don't think Dave is dealing with analogies.  But no matter.  The entire Book, including the seeming "Wonderful World Tomorrow" verses which any good COG type would take as Second Coming and Christian Jesus predictive has NOTHING to do with the Church of God views or what thousands of years later became Christianity which had a very bad habit of mining the Old Testament to explain what they wished to express and needed to define in the New Testament.

 Please get this.

The reason many Old Testament scriptures seem to be so amazingly accurate and predictive of Jesus, his life and death is because the New Testament stories of Jesus and the many proofs of who he was to Christians are mined out of the Old Testament scriptures for the very purpose of telling a story that no one actually or literally knew what or when happened.  The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.(Occam's Razor)  They are not mystical predictions of the distant future.  They were written for the people then, addressing the problems in their culture and lives then and not today. **

For example:

The birth narratives of Jesus were written using the Old Testament to tell the story of Jesus birth which no one actually knew how it came about much less when or where. They were written to address the "then" problem and accusation that Jesus was a bastard and born of fornication. There are four "loose women" in one geneology, Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba and Ruth to send the message that if God could use those women, get off Mary's back.  John 6 thru 8 is a reflection of this rancorous issue.  One would think Sarah, Rebeccah,  Leah, Rachel or Deborah might have gotten a bit more press.

Matthew never read Luke's story and Luke never read Matthew's.  They cannot be the same story.  "Matthew" is the master of this in his birth story where he quotes and OT passage as proof of his NT story when in fact he used the OT passage to write the NT in the first place..  Not only that but he misquotes and misinterprets (by our standards) the OT to tell that story.  In short, like Dave, "Matthew" (the names were added to anonymous Gospels a hundred years later) makes scripture mean what it never meant. That may be acceptable to some, but it is not to myself and today we would call it fudging the facts and making up tales. Dave is fudging the facts big time and making up tales.  While Matthew did it, he knew he was doing it.  Dave is not in the "I know it is just an analogy and a form of Midrashic writing."  I am sure he does not know what Midrashic Writing is.

On the other end of Jesus life story, Psalm 22 is not predictive of what Jesus would say when he was dying, (It's not talking about Jesus to begin with) but rather was used to tell the story of what the NT authors imagined Jesus would have said dying.  It was a common practice and is also the reason you have great orations in the NT that no one could possibly have written down at the time or at least anywhere near accurately.  "John's" Gospel has Jesus making great speeches from John 13-17 because that is what he imagined Jesus would say doctrinally.  Obviously no other Gospel writer or Paul ever hear of these words of Jesus.

Ever wonder, with all the disciples sleeping and Jesus alone and a distance away pouring out his private prayer to God over his impending death, exactly who and how someone found out exactly what Jesus said in his mind to God?  It is what a writer imagined Jesus would have said in such a time as that.  It was ok to write stories this way then.  Today, not so much without at least telling the reader what you have done.  If you don't, you end up on Oprah apologizing.

Unwittingly, Dave Pack is doing the same thing.  The difference is that Dave actually sees the Bible and the Book of Haggai speaking of him and it was written to speak of him.  He does not believe he is any analogy nor his position analogous to Joshua the High Priest.  He believes he is the true intended meaning of the old shallow meaning of the original Haggai back then.  The NT writers KNEW they were mining the OT writings to explain their NT Jesus, doctrine and experience. It's what they did when they did not literally know Jesus birth, life or death circumstances. It's why there are so may contradictions in the Gospel accounts and copying of each other's writings.  Matthew is 94% copied from Mark and Luke copies almost half of Mark for his Gospel.  Copying is not eyewitness accounting.  It is not identical experiences.  It is copying.  No Gospel writer ever actually saw anything he was writing about.  No writer says, "And then Jesus and I went to Galilee,"  or "And then as Jesus and I were talking, the Romans showed up really angry and demanding to know which of us was Jesus."

Dave Pack is also mining the OT to explain his view of himself and RCG but to Dave, IT IS NOT KNOWN TO HIM THAT HE IS DOING THIS. HE REALLY BELIEVES THE OT HAGGAI LITERALLY POINTED TO HWA AND NOW POINTS TO HIM.  This is empty headed theology. This is insane. The Book of Haggai does not and never could point to a Dave Pack of Haggai's future.  It was meant for THEN by Dave's own arguments.  Why would God speak so plainly THEN to THOSE folk of 500 BCE if God did not mean THEN.  Dave's argument for Haggai today is bogus, concocted and addle headed by his own arguments.  As I noted, he can make any analogy he wants, but he is not making an analogy from all that I can tell.

Notice his core reasonings on this:

 2) Directly related, why (or how) would God command the remnant to “Go…build the House!” (Hag. 1:8)—but not mean NOW? How could He mean some undetermined future year? Why would God tell them (twice) to “consider their ways”—but not mean that they should do this now? Try to imagine God saying, “Consider your ways, but take your time. There’s no hurry. In fact, take years to think it over—even though you have been out of My Church for 20 years! You don’t have to DO anything now.”

3) Also related, if God waited 2,500 years to reveal the prophecy’s meaning (3,000 years when various related much older Psalms are considered), is not His waiting done? Does His revealing it not signal that He has reached the time to fulfill it rather than having reached a point one, two or three years out?

17) Recall Haggai 1:13: “Then spoke Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people…” Haggai is the messenger to God’s people, with what is an all-important message from God. Would not God make clear in such a unique message He describes as “the Lord’s message unto His people” the correct date for action? What kind of message would it be if people did not know WHEN TO CARRY IT OUT?"

But now notice that the actual book of Haggai from start to finish is speaking to them THEN.  So by Dave's proof texting and reasonings, it really did only mean then because why would God tell those folk all that and mean it was all for later, years down the road and not really for them ultimately.  There is NO connecting between the THEN of Haggai and the NOW of Dave Pack.  Analogy maybe. Knock yourself out.  But any whacked out Baptist minister who saw his church falling apart or the Baptist Convention straying from the faith once delivered could also make this a great sermon ANALOGY.  He'd be scorned out of existence if he meant that he was literally the fulfillment of Haggai.  I suppose they don't call it an anal-logy for nothing.  It simply means  and literally so,  "a study of the anus"

A few obvious reads of Haggai meaning THEM not the current WCG/COG debacle and the original Zerubbabel and Joshua and not HWA and Dave Pack.

Haggai 1:

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.’”

Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”
Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways...
12... Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.
13 Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave this message of the Lordto the people:“I am with you,” declares the Lord.14 So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God,15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.
Haggai 2:

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty.‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty.‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”

I know we get so used to seeing the NT in the OT and I have explained why. I know it is so easy to take OT Messianic hopes in the Jewish mode as Second Coming , Jesus hopes in the NT.  It is near impossible for a Church goer today of denomination to understand that Isaiah 53 is not about Jesus.  It is a THEN analogy about Israel and may actually be Isaiah writing about his own impressions of himself trying to get to the Israel of then and his not so warm welcome in doing so. Too much information I know.

So to the point.  Dave Pack arguing that all these things MUST mean HIM and MUST mean NOW because why would God reveal all these things to HIM NOW and not do them NOW, this year, this August, this next week because this date is in the book of Haggai, are MISGUIDED, MISUNDERSTOOD, MISINTERPRETED and MISTAKEN.

One final example.  When the Book of Revelation says,  "To show unto his servants what must soon take place," and "behold I come quickly,"  those were the intent of the author for those folk then under that which they were going through then.  We read those words today as if they were written three days ago instead of to others two thousand years ago for reasons and in circumstances that are not ours today.  It is very easy to read the NT that way and we do it all the time.  It may be a mistake and the reason others have had to add concepts to the scripture and reexplain what "soon" and "shortly" must mean for us today. The apologetic was "for a day with the lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day."  People way back in the day were noticing (not scoffing..that's the authors definition) that things are not working out as advertised.  The author of II Peter accused them of accusing God of slackness concerning promises.  The answer was typical of nice hopes gone south for the time being.  "God does not see as you see."  "There is a way that seems right unto a man but the way thereof ends in death."  "The wisdom of man is foolishness with God." and "My ways are not your ways saith the Eternal."  It's a very common and oft used way of saying "oops, seems not to be unfolding as we had taught."

The next question will be just how will he handle this?  Will be God be "giving us more time!"  Will there have been wiggle room for "I never said it was me," or "Then it must be next year?"  Dave has reasoned way too much for this year to ever get away with that.  Will it be swept under the rug of proof texting gone haywire?  Will it become "Spiiiiiiritual" as Ron Weinland blamed the folk for misunderstanding?  Will it revert to "I meant it as an analogy!"    Who knows...    But I do know, I really do, and believe with all my unbelieving heart that nothing of what Dave Pack has written about this topic will come to pass as Dave demands that it must.  Dave Pack is not really an Apostle anymore than Bob Thiel is a Prophet or James Malm a Theologian.  These men are unqualified by any standard to tell the who, what, where, when, why and how of theology and all things Bible.  These are men who read nothing outside their own views for consideration and members who consider mere booklets on topics to be the be all and end all of understanding the Bible.  It is sad to me and dangerous for those so inclined.

That wraps up my views of Dave Pack as spoken of through the Prophet Haggai.  Time is short and it remains that those who are entranced and mesmerized by this kind of Church and theological and spiritual leadership wake up and take charge of their own minds in these matters.  The individual life experience and journey is not meant to be one where you give yourself over to see the world and all things it can present to you through the five senses of another.  You don't need to filter your religious world through the eyes of anyone else who you think has more insight and more understanding than you could ever have.

I have nothing against Dave Pack personally.  Another time, another circumstance and we might be able to actually "reason together," but Dave's reasoning really means agreeing with him which I never could. I wish the RCG/COG "lurkers" here the very best on this whacky journey your are being lead on.  I/We care about you because we have learned to care about ourselves first again after our own experiences.  Time now is short...for Dave Pack and the Restored Church of God.  We are seeing what Ron Weinland's Church and people are doing in response to Ron's personal machinations.  Shortly we shall see what the people of the Pack's reactions will be to his.  I am sorry for the theological lesson the members of RCG are about to learn as if it could not have been learned from others like Ron Weinland, but Earth School is like that...

**Please understand I realize fully that this view of scripture is my own based on my own years of study and considerations of past views.  It is not my intent to offend or confuse anyone on this topic.

No real shocker there.  The same old party politics and manipulation still are the order of the day.

Robin Webber also lays out some goals that UCG is to be striving for.  These goals are the exact same things I have been hearing them say for the last 18 years.  For 18 years they have not been able to accomplish any of this. The only thing they have accomplished is division and upheavals.

Robin writes:

We held a retreat session for a day before the formal meetings to earnestly pray and talk to one another as to how to “grow in grace and knowledge” in conveying the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God in a compelling, loving, relevant and hope-filled manner. With today’s fractured and distracted audience, how do we best grab their attention, address their personal needs, and make them consider the great questions of life. Who and what is God? Who and what is man? Why was I born? Why would God even care? What does it mean to believe in Jesus Christ? Does it mean simply to acknowledge Him and experience a casual acquaintance, or does it mean to follow Him by surrendering every fiber of our being into His service? Those big questions of life must be matched by the ultimate Life-giver’s big answers that come directly from the Scriptures.
"Growing in grace and knowledge"  Year after year they have said this exact same thing.  For 18 years they have never accomplished this or learned to convey the message of Jesus to the world.  Until they surrender to grace and stop prostituting themselves to the law, they are never going to cross the wall they have built that separates them from  "grace and knowledge."

It’s our collective prayer and continuing desire to effectively preach the gospel in such a manner that will move people to change their lives and echo the apostle Paul’s words:

“What things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being conformed to His death, if, by an means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead” (Philippians 3:7-11).

Allow me to be clear. We are not out to “grow a church” by some worldly methodology, but first and foremost always desirous of growing in understanding the depth of God’s spiritual purposes as defined by His grace, love, law and judgments. When we understand that this is an ongoing activity till the day we die, then things begin to change in our lives, our families, our local congregations and our potential impact expands upon our fellow coworkers and neighbors. As we do our part, God will do His part in what only He can do—call others to understand His truth (John 6:44, 65)! The book of Acts informs us that at times He “adds” (Acts 2:41), and sometimes He “multiplies” (Acts 6:7). We must leave that to Him and “be about our Father’s business” in making ourselves ready as the Bride of Christ.
Since Jesus is not the focus of UCG's "gospel" message they will never make a huge impact upon their fellow coworkers and neighbors.  Because the focus is upon the law and not on Jesus they are not doing their part.  Because they do not focus upon Jesus, his word's, his teachings, or actions, they have to leave it up to God to do their work for them.  He has to go out and find the people to send to the doorstep.  Apparently he has not been to keen in doing that, by UCG's own admission.

Bob Thiel Disappointed That COG Members Are Not Reading His Article About David C Pack

Poor non-ordained Bob, try as he might, he just CANNOT make the impact that he thinks he is making.  Like Pack, Thiel thinks he is reaching more people than any other COG in human history has ever done.  Like Dave Pack, he also is an abysmal failure.

Bob, like most of us, has been saying that there will be no large influx of COG members from the top three COG's into Dave's personality cult.

Bob also for some illogical reason seems to think he is one of the three COG leaders Dave clams will die by August 31.  All I can say to that is, dream on little guy, you are nothing but a pimple on Dave's plans.

Bob wrote an article some time back, Why Not The Restored Church of God in which he hoped to stop large numbers of COG members from jumping ship into RCG.  Bob was trying to influence people into coming into his improperly named Continuing Church of God.  Apparently no one is reading Bob's articleand Bob is sorely disappointed.

Since my article Why Not the Restored Church of God? shows up on the first page when people do a Google search of the improperly named Restored Church of God, it would seem that there would be a massive increase in views if indeed, massive numbers were going over to RCG. But alas, that is not the case.

On The Current State of the Churches of God

The web blog As Bereans Did has an excellent detailed article up about why the COG's are not growing.  We have long held here that all the COG's are not bring in new members, that young ones are leaving, and that the only exist through splinter poaching.

One thing I have brought up before is that there is not a single COG out there that tried to reinvent it's self when it formed a new group.  It was their golden opportunity to become something new and alive.  Instead every single one of them had to imitate HWA and every thing he did.  They name their colleges after him, they name their magazines after his, they rewrite or plagiarizer his books, they buy his memorabilia and they live in the past.

The article goes over these major points that most people who are critical of the COG realize:

1) Availability of information on the Internet.
2) Lack of novelty.
3) Lack of charisma in leadership.
4) Sheer number of COG groups to choose from.

Some minor supporting points include:
- In-fighting between splinters.
- Aging membership.
- Failure to reach out in today's methods.

To me the one splinter group that had the biggest chance of doing something right was UCG.  They had a golden opportunity to start brand new, reinvent itself, and do a major "work."  However it did not accomplish that.  It now has splint into several different groups since its inception.

The article has this:

Armstrong was an advertising man. He knew the value of product differentiation. He knew what it meant to stand out in a crowd, and he knew what death awaited for any product that was just more of the same. He saw the appeal of British Israelism and the annual holy days. When he failed to really sell these and certain other notions to his branch of the COG7, he set out to sell them to the public. He had a niche and he had the know-how to capitalize on it.

Herbert Armstrong used his advertising experience to take his message to the radio waves. From the 1930's to the 1970's, most of the people who heard of the Radio Church of God, which eventually changed its name to the Worldwide Church of God, did so from radio programs.

What was that niche?

In short, J. H. Allen's British Israelism compounded with a few additional legal requirements created an attractive elitism. Toss on Alexander Hislop's concocted historical narratives to create a secretive conspiracy, and voila! It wasn't just about Protestant versus Catholic, nor was it just about the Sabbath versus Sunday. Now it was about being one of an elite group of people who were chosen by God to be given secret knowledge of a conspiracy stretching back 3,000 years, kept secret until this final hour before the return of Christ. Members of this elect group were called and chosen to fulfill prophecy by spreading the warning that doom and death awaited anyone not vetted into this "one true end-time church". This church superseded all previous churches; none of them would do. This was the final offer and it was only available while supplies last.

What a potent combination! Doomsday and Conspiracy. Fear and Pride.

Eat your heart out, Little Orphan Annie with your secret decoder ring. We have the keys to understand prophecy!

The problem with today's group of post-Armstrong leaders is that they have not learned the lesson of effective advertising.

They were told for so long that they had the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth that now they are in a predicament. No one boards a plane intending to be locked into a holding-pattern. How do you differentiate your product when you are more or less forbidden to change it and make it distinctive, and there are nearly a thousand other people selling the same thing?

The article then talks about the "charisma" of the current crop of COG leaders.  None of them, and I mean NONE of them have the charisma of HWA or GTA. Pack has proven himself to be lying narcissist, Flurry is batshit crazy and Weinland is in prison.

Most of the current COG leadership try to solve the problem of brand differentiation by heaping upon themselves titles and honors. "I am this or that prophetic messenger!" "I am going to train this or that prophetic messenger!" "I have the most pure and unadulterated continuation of the original."

Unfortunately this approach is almost entirely dependent on the charisma of the glorious leader. If you don't have a glorious leader with charisma, as Garner Ted Armstrong had in abundance, then you simply cannot win with this approach.

Herbert Armstrong's personal charisma was high, far higher than any of his remaining followers, but Garner Ted's was higher. It was Garner Ted that was personally responsible for the greatest increases in membership from the 1950's through the 1970's.

There was nothing in the entire organization or any of its competitors who could match him. He was handsome, intelligent, well spoken, had a baritone voice soft as butter, was educated in the areas that mattered, and you couldn't ask for better rhetoric. The women loved him. And through it all, he still seemed down-to-earth and approachable. He was a leader for the people. I tell you the truth if he hadn't been caught up in the church he would have been somebody.

Compare that to the current leader of the Intercontinental Church of God.

"Who?" you ask. Exactly!
Certain ones in the current crop of splinter group leaders have a portion of charisma, but they simply don't have enough. Their charisma is a flash in the pan. It may keep established believers, but gaining new believers is much more difficult. Cult of Personality can only take you so far. As with the Intercontinental Church of God, when the leader is struck, the sheep will scatter.

The universal method to overcome lack of charisma is to spend money. You have to have members to get money, then you have to spend money to get members. It's a catch-22. Not only that but you have to keep spending more and more money, which means you have to keep asking for more and more. There's only so long you can squeeze blood from that turnip. It never, ever lasts. It never truly can replace charisma.

Armstrongist COGs these days are stagnating and declining in attendance because their leadership lacks the charisma of old.

1997 Prophecy on Why the Church of God Movement is Doomed to Irrelevancy

This article has been floating around on the internet this past week or so.  Several have sent it to me.

Why The Church Of God Movement Is Doomed To Irrelevancy
(Written in 1997 on WCGnet))

What is the future of the WCG and its offshoots? Can good fruit come from a bad tree? The history of the Armstrongist movement shows that the answer is no. The current state of the church of God groups tends to confirm this. Fewer and fewer people are attending the WCG as dissatisfied former members stay away. As it turns out, the United Church of God isn't so united after all. Every few months we hear one congregation or another splitting, with one group establishing their own fellowship. The Global church continues to struggle along with its financial difficulties. And the Philadelphia church will not grow as the policy of its ministry seems to be to disfellowship one old member for every new member that joins.

In the future, the churches of God will continue to experience further decline and
fragmentation. Eventually, the large groups will shrink into insignificance, and most church of God members will belong to small, independent congregations. Armstrongism is a heresy built on a foundation of lies. It will not survive close scrutiny. Those whose critical thinking faculties have been dulled from years of mind control will remain. Those who are able to think for themselves will eventually move on as they discover that their belief system is a hoax.

When I say the membership will shrink, I am speaking of the lay members. The ministry is a different story. In society at large, when a group of people receives its support from transfer payments, the recipients are called welfare cases. When you have the same situation in the churches of God, the recipient group is called "the ministry." The church of God ministers are in no hurry to go anywhere. Heavens to Betsy, can you imagine one of them actually working for a living?

The United Church of God, An International Association is a case in point. Scores of WCG ministers left when the New Covenant doctrines were promulgated. What did they do? They formed an organization to collect tithes and redistribute the funds among themselves. Lay members were excluded from the governing body. The "ministers" distribute the funds as theysee fit. This doesn't sit well with some of the members (incredibly, some fully support the UCG governing body and feel the rest of the membership should be submissive. Some people never learn.), as the recent defections show.

The churches of God are doomed to shrink into insignificance. This is a good thing.
Armstrongism will always have a following as lazy individuals will choose not to exercise their minds and fully examine their belief system. But also, the decline of Armstrongism is means fewer will have their lives wrecked by following this pernicious ideology. Here, then, are the reasons why Armstrongism will wither away:
For Worldwide Church of God (WCG) offshoots that still subscribe to Armstrongism:

1. The theology itself.

For years the Armstrongist theology was shielded by an official embargo. Members were strongly discouraged from studying religious issues independently. They were to be dependent on the official pronouncements of headquarters, especially from Armstrong himself, and on the teachings of the local ministry. However, Armstrong's theology is so full of holes that it cannot survive close scrutiny.  Because of the fragmentation of the churches in recent years, the embargo on outside religious information has weakened considerably. More and more members will study the Bible independently and, if they are open minded, they will inevitably conclude that Armstrongism is nonsense. They will leave the Armstrongist strongholds, hopefully for theologically sound Christian fellowships.

2. The incompetence of the ministry.

From the lamentations we've been hearing since the closing of Ambassador College/University, you would think that we were losing one of the world's great institutions of learning. Actually, Ambassador College would be a laughing stock if not for the harm inflicted on the WCG membership by AC graduates. Ambassador was a catastrophe, and the trail of the church of God movement is littered with the human wreckage left behind by Ambassador College graduates. The world is better off for its passing. Most WCG and ex-WCG ministers are nothing more than little autocratic know-it-alls whose knowledge of the Bible is limited to what they learned from Armstrong himself or one of his stooges. In other words, they don't know very much, and most of what they do know is wrong. WCG ministers were taught to fudge answers to the difficult questions they would be asked about the inconsistencies in WCG theology. A really effective minister had to think on his feet and come up with convincing answers in a hurry. Having known many such ministers, I can assure you that they were very, very good at it. Another thing they are good at is turning the tables on you. If you have painted them into a theological corner, they are so skilled in debating techniques that they will have you on the defensive in no time, and will soon have you apologizing for questioning them. Finally, they had to be able to isolate those who were incorrigibly anti-Armstrong. If the malcontent couldn't be defeated by debating techniques, the minister had to isolate him from the membership, lest he poison them with dissident ideas. All this was necessary to keep the tithes and offerings flowing freely through the money pipeline, lest Herbert Armstrong be forced to sell his jet and fly business class like everybody else. While all of this is helpful in ensuring a subservient, unquestioningly loyal laity in Armstrongist groups, these "skills" are of no use in genuine Christianity. They are mind control techniques, not ministering techniques. Which brings us to our next point.

3. Today's WCG and ex-WCG ministers are not as adept at mind control as Herbert W. Armstrong was.

Nothing is more disturbing to an autocratic minister than a member who thinks for himself. Love him or hate him, if there is one thing Joe Tkach, Sr. did for church members, it's that he made them think for themselves. He forced them to take a stand for or against Armstrongism. For the first time in years (possibly for the first time in their lives if they were born into the church) church members had to make a decision on their own. They had to decide whether to stay with the WCG or leave. Unfortunately, some made their decision and stopped thinking, submitting to whatever organization with which they allied themselves. But some continued to think independently. All WCG and ex-WCG members have been lied to, and there is not nearly as much trust for the ministry as there once was. Today, you'll rarely hear anyone say "If Mr. [fill in the blank: Hulme, Tkach, Meredith] tells me to jump, I ask how high." (Some may say that in Flurry's church, but they'll probably get disfellowshipped anyway.) In the past, the ministers would answer questions like "Is it OK to cook on the Sabbath;" or "What is the proper hair length for men?" Now they have to answer questions such as "Is it true that ministers only paid one tithe instead of three, and they got most of that back as an allowance to keep the Feast;" or "Did Herbert Armstrong really commit incest?" Failure to answer those questions satisfactorily is usually a signal to the member that it is time to move on. The various churches of God may be able to lure church members (or will they? See point 4.), but they will not be able to hold them because they are deficient in the art of mind control.

4. Today's churches of God don't sell their product as well as Herbert Armstrong did.

The followers of Armstrongism are an aging group, and there are few coming into the churches to replace them. True, some of the church of God splinters report growth in membership. But they will admit that the vast majority of their new members are defectors from other church of God groups. There isn't very much new blood coming into the church of God movement. Basically, the various churches of God are simply passing members back and forth between themselves. Time will reduce their numbers. As the older members die off, and as dissatisfied members leave, the churches will shrink. Once again, this is not a bad thing. The various churches of God embrace one version or another of Armstrongism, a harmful heresy. The fewer Armstrongists there are in the world, the better.

I know this dude was trying to be serious (at least I hope he was) but this is hilarious.  He is responding to a post from May of 2012, Garner Ted Melodies "Consider the Lilies" and "Jerusalem"

No one knows who runs the CGI now, nor cares.  The world could care less about David Antion.  He only appeals to older WCG members.  Antion is far more successful as a marriage counselor for  worldly pagans than he ever has been as a minister.  Every single prophecy GTA uttered has been a failure, and it only takes ONE failure, according to scripture, to discredit a prophet.  And Mark Armstrong?  Who or what is he?  You have to look long and hard on the GTA web site before you ever find out that GTA is dead and Mark is now the leader.  He leads another dying COG that is only putting putting money in his and mommy dearests pockets.

A COG False Prophet

This letter was on Exit and Support.  While it is from an exUCG member, it applies to COG members in all the splinter groups who know about but don't talk about HWA and his failed prophecies.  He is highly regarded by most, but a lot don't like to bring him up now at all:

Blatant False Prophecies:
August 5, 2013
I was wondering if you still have Herbert Armstrong's Tangled Web book by David Robinson available in PDF form? I think it would be helpful.
We have stopped attending with United Church of God after reading some articles on the history of the WCG and HWA's failed prophecies. I had to really stop and think, "How could God endorse such doctrine proposed by a man who made blatant false prophecies?" UCG never talks of it's relationship with Armstrong. --No longer attending UCG

Bob Thiel Has A Kenyan Deacon Who Is Conning Him and Various Churches of God for Money

Poor Bob Thiel, being doubly blessed apparently has not given him any double insight into the types of "leaders" he has preaching for his personality cult.  In order to increase his numbers and look like he is doing a worldwide work, Thiel embraced a lot of Africans who claimed they wanted to join his group.  It turns out that they were only after money. Instead of a Nigerian money scam going on, it is a Kenyan money scam.

Life can't get any more delicious....Thiels tithe money has been conned from him.

James Malm has an article on his blog today about Kenyans who are conning various COG's into giving them money.  They are contacting various COG's telling them that they are a longtime COG members and need financial help.   Kenya, A Warning to The Church of God

On August 19th, in a phone conversation with James Russell, of the Church of God in Truth, “Prove All Things”;  it was discovered that their Nyandiwa Scout Camp [Feast Site]arrangements had fallen through, but they weren’t aware of it in time to withdraw the announcement from being published in their magazine.

In another unrelated search, it was discovered that a George Otieno was listed as a deacon in the “Continuing Church of God”, led by Bob Thiel.  Otieno is named as a ‘deacon’ in his organization, and is a representative for Thiel (and apparently Russell’s the Church of God in Truth, “Prove All Things”.) simultaneously.

Otieno had contacted Thiel for the first time in about February of 2012 (claiming to have been a long-time member of the WCG / UCG / LCG over time).   Bob Thiel, until August 20th, was not aware of these other affiliations.
He today (8/21) indicated that he’d found that George Otieno was nephew of Lukas Ogada.  We have long known that Polycal Ormondi Ogalo is also nephew of brother Lukas.  Just this morning (8/21/13) Simon Muthama, rep. for the Living Church of God in Kenya, wrote indicating that Polycap Ogalo and George Otieno are brothers.

Thiel indicates that his sponsored Feast site was not Nyandiwa.  But, that George Otieno was the contact person for his site at Homa Bay!  The Continuing CoG website lists the location as the Prudence Hotel in Homa Bay.

We are at present drawn to conclude that these men were colluding to draw support from our two organizations, the CCoG-GJ and CoGit (and perhaps others).  When CCoG-GJ balked at sending $17,800+, the deal fell apart.

James Malm, he who is NOT starting a church, has conned some of his acolytes into setting up a "charity" that will keep him in his apartment so he does not have to go out and get a job now.  Only last year was he complaining about being low on funds and needing support.  Today, it is official.  SEND IT IN!  NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With his new money  miking machine, his new COG empire can quickly arise.

Feast sites are planned, weekly broadcasts are being made, tithes and offerings are coming in, life couldn't get any better!  Pretty soon he will be jetting around the world with his message to world leaders about a "strong hand from the Old Testament."  Money will be available for Steuben gifts, suites at Raffles will be booked. Oh the life of an Armstrongite cult leader....

Life has been rough for Malm lately.  He is in desperate need for cash.  He has not been able to receive his income stream and he needs it now.  With his feast in Oregon coming up, his travel and lodging there, he must book the finest establishments as possible.  No more Motel 6 for him.  Super 8, here he comes!
