Oh, you scoffing unbelievers! When Dave Pack speaks it is like casting beautiful pearls at dirty, filthy, unclean pigs who doubt him.
Now, a couple of other things. For those who don’t have the Holy Spirit…I don’t care how intelligent they are…Mr. Armstrong came up with the best analogy I’ve ever heard and that is, he said—you’re trying to teach higher math to a cow. You’ve got an upside-down Bible. And we have to recognize there are people in the congregations around the world—only a few, gladly. I’m happy about that. Virtually none anymore, but occasionally somebody will leave who will receive the scriptures in this long series…Part 38 now…like a cow would receive higher math. They could be a minister. Mr. Armstrong found, and he said, “I’ve had the painful reality to come to realize that many rose to the rank of Evangelist and I ordained them and they were not converted”—and he said that before he saw what happened after his lifetime. So I’ve ordained people who were no more converted than a stump—or a turnip—or whatever you want to say…analogies I’ve used. Christ didn’t use the cow analogy. He said it this way…He said “Don’t cast pearls before swine.” Now…Mr. Armstrong wasn’t calling people cows. Christ was not calling people pigs, but to give the truth to someone who has no understanding is like giving it to a pig.
Now sometimes, the problem is…quoting Mr. Armstrong or Christ…the cows, or the pigs, get into the Church and then along comes awesome pearls and the pigs trample you. It wasn’t you out on a street trying to tell your relatives…or at home or on the job…of something, and casting pearls before swine. But what if the cows or the swine are sitting, if you will…I’m just using their words (you know, Mr. Armstrong and Christ)…are sitting in the congregation? I won’t know when I’m casting pearls to people who have no chance to understand them. I’m teaching trigonometry or calculus to cows, and so when they leave, you should understand that’s what happened.
Dave Pack claims that he possesses the end time knowledge of knowing the continuation of the understanding that Herbert Armstrong supposedly had. Dave of course has the final word on that understanding. Herb only understood it so far, but Dave has the final interpretation. His god says so.
Dave is such an awesome dude that he will be standing beside zombie Herb who will rise out of his grave to become the ruler of the tribe of Judah.
Remember the end of Daniel 11? He goes and sets his palace in the Holy mountain; the glorious Holy mountain. Well, Chapter 9 is telling us more about this prince. So let me just conclude by saying, we still have a half of one week for Christ to go. He has to have a whole week—another, roughly, three and a half years, or so—to confirm the covenant. We’ve been in a holding pattern for 2,000 years. The 70 Weeks prophecy is sixty-nine-and-a-half-weeks complete. And it got frozen in time until this horrible man with a small people that do great things—the seventh head—comes to Jerusalem, after he’s been to a lot of other places. He attacks Egypt; has, in his confederacy, the Saudi’s, the Turks, the Syrians and the Jordanians and the Lebanese, and so forth…We’ve explained all of that…and he arrives there, and he eventually is called to the North and the East, and he gets bad news. Remember? And he’s taken away and he dies “with hands”—swords kill him. So this is not the man of Chapter 8.I’m taking extra time, brethren, because this extraordinary book was locked up for 26 centuries, until Mr. Armstrong began to explain it, and he went far enough that there would be plenty left—that knowledge could increase at the very end—as it is. And I just wanted to take time. I don’t know if anybody…and I used to teach the book of Daniel to every one of my pastorates, beginning in the ’70s…and I never took the detail I’m taking now—and I know nobody else ever could. They didn’t have the knowledge to do it—nor did I.
So I would just like you to understand…If you wonder why do I say the first phase of the Kingdom—where Christ announces His way, beginning as a sprout after coming to His Temple—that, that first phase looks like three-and-a-half years…Well, “Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and your holy city.” That’s why this one called Elijah goes to Jerusalem. That’s why he goes to the house of Israel—and all of us, together, in the early phase of the Kingdom with Mr. Armstrong, probably—PROBABLY—being the governor of Judah starting Day 1, may be there when some of these terrible things happen. I may be here. I don’t know how God will do that. Now this will all be pooh-pooh’d by people that just don’t believe it. It’s math to a cow. It’s pearls to swine…unless you have the Holy Spirit, then it’s easy to understand.
Dave has instituted the true form of government in Wadsworth, Ohio. Once Jesus returns to Wadsworth, he and Dave will take that perfect government to Jerusalem where they will both reign in glory. It will be the envy of the world. Due to that envy the world will rise up against Dave and his glorified members and wage war. People all over the world will turn in family members who are part of Dave's crew as their governments start to fight Dave. Persecution will reign over the late comers to the truth who have not been gloried to reign with Dave in Jerusalem.
Yes, it is a convoluted mess.
“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake” (Matt. 24:9). That’s not happening today. We’re a gnat on an elephants’ back. Millions and millions know about us, but we’re not hated of all nations today.
But when we’re telling the world the government that is here is going to Jerusalem that’s going to be the ultimate upsetting of the apple cart, and we will be hated by a world that will not want God’s rule! Human nature wants freedom, which means freedom from God’s Law!! The freedoms that Americans talk about…They’ve disqualified themselves—and always have been—from having them, and God is going to take them all away. This “freedom-loving” country, the “freedom-loving” democracies of the west are going to end in slavery, because there’s only freedom inside God’s Law not outside it. So, we’re going to be announcing that, and people will hate it.
Imagine what the rulers of the world will think. And they’ll come and try to…They would stop us, unless they just couldn’t because Christ is here making sure they can’t…and the angelic realm that…it comes with Him, are making sure they can’t. They could persecute some of God’s people…I’ve read you Psalm 79; I’ve read you Daniel 11 and many other places there will be terrible persecution, and here’s more…
“Then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another” (vs. 10). Do you now understand—in light of Daniel 11, verses 30-31-32-33—the King of the North plagues the Church in Jerusalem; but other parts of the world, too, no doubt. And people get scared and they sell out, and they say, “That’s my mother. She’s in the church!”…“That’s my son!” This isn’t talking about the apostasy behind us. And they…Because Matthew 13 says persecution and tribulation arise, they are offended because of the word of the Kingdom. And some people pull what I call Peter’s act—“He’s one of them!” “No, I’m not. No, I’m not!”—and they deny Him.
So, there’s coming a time when Christ is going to find out who does and doesn’t deny Him after the Kingdom comes. Now, I’m not referring to us. Those of us who are the little flock, who are the administrators, who enter the joy of the Lord, who’ve experienced exceeding joy, who’ve been through the reckoning, who’ve taken the Kingdom. Remember, Daniel 7 doesn’t apply to us.
But for the thousands and then tens and hundreds of thousands of people, no doubt, who’ll be coming into the Church during this final confirming of the covenant with Israel and Judah…but all nations are there before Christ in Matthew 25. All of that happens and plays out and causes an ever bigger spotlight to come on us.
Unstoppable Dave Pack will soon take his message to the entire world declaring that the kingdom is here! Thousands will reposed and join Dave in his amazing work, but the rest of the world will be ticked off. Dave's cult is BOOMING out and Dave warns that his message CANNOT be stamped out.
The Church of God—in any previous age—has never reached a point where it’s even been remotely close to…Including today, when we’re reaching millions…even remotely close to “hated of all nations.” When is that going to happen? Do you think the Restored Church of God is going to get big enough, by any trajectory of growth that I described at the beginning of this sermon…Do you see any possible way, brethren…I want you think about this…that we’re going to get big enough, the 7.5 billion people on Earth…Whatever it’ll be soon. It’s almost 7.4…call it 7.4 billion people—all the nations of the earth—are going to hate us, when the exact same message was preached by a much greater sized church…when there were only two-thirds as many people on Earth…under Mr. Armstrong…and everybody wasn’t hated? Come to grips with that. Now, how is it that a small Church, reaching a much, much, much bigger world, is going to be hated by everybody; but under Mr. Armstrong a 125-, then 150‒160,000 people, on television everywhere—357 stations just in the United States—and there were a lot fewer people on Earth, there wasn’t much programming…I mean, millions and millions, hundreds of millions heard him—and all nations didn’t hate us. It has to be talking about a different time.We have an infinitely smaller potential to be hated of all nations—no matter how big we get—an infinitely smaller potential to be hated of all nations, than the Work under Mr. Armstrong when they were not hated of all nations. This has to be talking about something bigger. The Kingdom is here and you can’t stop us. We’re everywhere—witnessing—BOOMING out—and the governments of the world, at war all over the world, CAN’T STAMP US OUT and yet, they will not accept Christ. But many will, and then the pressure will be so terrible, they’ll buckle under it, because we just won’t shut up and it’s the marvelous Work and wonder that…Some will be despisers, remember Habakkuk and Acts 13, Isaiah 29:14, and so forth.
Dave is setting his sights on converting hundreds of thousands of Arabs in all of the various Arab nations. They will be coming over to the dark side as they join forces with Dave. There is only one Church of God on the entire earth who has the capability of converting these Muslims and it is NOT the improperly named "continuing" Church of God. It is Super Dave to the rescue once again with his superfantabulous message.
God’s people at that time…“Then let them which are in Judaea [get] to the mountains…[I’ve been to Jerusalem. I’ve been all around it. I’ve taken walks. It’s surrounded by mountains. Get out of Jerusalem and even get out of Judea, if you can. And this is a curious statement]…and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto” (vs. 21). No one could ever explain that. I never could. Who would want to go there? Why would any of God’s people be right around Jerusalem and want to go in there? How are we going to have a lot of people in the Church in Jordan? Nobody ever understood that. How could you have a lot of people in the Church in Egypt? That’s never happened. How could a lot of people in the Church in Lebanon and Syria? Huh? Who are the countries right around where God’s people would be told, “Don’t go in there”?We never had any brethren in any of those countries. Saudi Arabia…are you kidding me? Or any of the countries there. How does that apply? This a giant question—that’s now answered—that I could never answer. I just had to read past it. The answer is, in the first phase of the Kingdom, there will beconverted people all through Jordan…because they’re “all nations”…and in Egypt, and in Saudi Arabia, and in Lebanon, and in Syria, and every nearby country. In a time of amazing trouble, though, God is going to call a people—Palestinians; others. Now we can understand.Under Mr. Armstrong there was never anybody in those countries, unless they were sent from Worldwide to go work in Jordan. I don’t know if we’ve ever had a soul in those countries or any of the other countries around. Throw in Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates…how far should we go? Turkey. We never had any brethren in those areas. They’re Islamic and the odds that you could send them there—with jihadis everywhere now—somehow, and do it now—the Restored Church of God could do it—is impossible to believe. And yet, God is warning people in the countries around Judea, don’t go in there—and if you’re there, get out. There have to be great numbers of people—or, at least, some—in all the countries around Jerusalem, who are converted. Yes, the first phase of the Kingdom—when sheep and goats from all nations are gathered—at the end of that period. Now, it makes sense. For 50 years, it didn’t. That’s before most of you in this room were born. Why would God be warning Muslims, don’t enter into Jerusalem? Muslim don’t even read this! They don’t believe it! Would He be warning worldly Christians? Would He be warning…you know…tourists? No, He’s warning God’s people, who are in the countries around Jerusalem. But there are none today and never have been. But there will be in the first phase of the Kingdom. Isn’t that amazing? Another great question. Put it on your list of questions that have been answered..
Have you ever wanted to be over your own church ready made area? The superfantabulous Church of God is on the look out for deacons, elders and ministers right now. They will soon be ordained to pastor the hundreds of thousands of COG members and public who will soon join Dave Pack's Restored Church of God. Send in you resume's!
So here is the other thing—the other assignment you have along with praying for more laborers—what if God wants YOU to be one of those laborers? Because in a few months, again, if the Kingdom doesn’t come relatively soon, we’re going to need a lot of laborers because things could really take off…because I also know where the budget is going a little bit down the line, not just this month and let’s say next month’s jump. So I’ll leave you with those inspiring thoughts. Anybody that wants to be in any other church is led by some other spirit, I can tell you that.We absolutely are going to need leaders, and we have a lot of fine men coming along. Some of you men out there, keep your eyes open, keep your ears open to the fact that we might be ringing your phone one of these minutes and talking to you about what we think could be your potential. So I’ll just tell you those things. We are scouring the landscape, as we’re supposed to do. If we’re going to be diligent to know the estate of the flock, we had better know something about the estate of shepherds that Christ would send.If we’re praying for laborers in the harvest, there better be part of our plan that’s looking for those laborers, unless we just don’t think Christ meant what He said. And if we do believe Him and we’re praying about it…and some of you may be trying to grow in every way you can…so that IF God wanted to use you in some role, then we ought to have a plan to kind of search you out or see where Christ has provided people in every corner of the world. Well, I’ll leave you with that. I hope you find that exciting.
More nonsense from Lee Clark:
This reminds me of the nonsense that the church taught about the printing press and airplanes.God created the Internet for the GospelI am absolutely convinced that this is a massive door that Jesus Christ has swung open on an unsuspecting world to get His final warning message out to a suicidal planet!! And if Jesus Himself has unlocked this door, then NO MAN CAN SHUT IT!! It will only be shut when Jesus Himself decides to shut it, and then no man will be able to open it!! So we can look to the Philadelphian letter and take courage in the fact that it is God Himself who has opened this door! No man can shut it on us, so we can walk through it with courage and confidence!
It was widely taught that the printing press was created for the sole purpose of HWA printing all of his booklets, magazines and books. Any other type of book is just peripheral nonsense compared to the truth of HWA.
Once Herb started gallivanting around the world after the death of his wife Loma, he started claiming that airplanes were created for the express purpose of the apostle to be able to fly to the ends of the earth with the "gospel"message.
Both claims are entirely false, as is Lee Clark's claim about the Internet.
Various Church of God apologists love to claim that the church was never racist at its core beliefs. Almost-arrested Elisha, Elijah Habakuk, Amos Bob Thiel makes many such claims. But all of them fail to take into account that the church and Ambassador College had written into its constitution racist ideas. That constitution was greatly affected on the church believing in the erroneous myth of British Israelism and superiority of the white nations who were supposedly descendants of the 12 tribes, who as we all know, were pure lily white.
It was so obvious and bad that the City of Pasadena investigated the church/college in 1963.
There is an advantage of having a huge personal collection of books written about the Worldwide Church of God, Herbert Armstrong and Armstrongism over the last 70 some years. Embarrassing facts are in print that can never be erased from the world no matter how much the lying false prophets of Armstrongism attempt to."Incidentally, regarding the Anglo-Israel theory, none other than Garner Ted Armstrong, being interviewed by the Rev. Lester Kinsolving, a syndicated religious writer for the public press, when queried about it, smiled and replied: "It's a likelihood (British Israelism), but it can't be proved. It's an interesting aside. We certainly don't regard this as a required belief, if that's what you're getting at." When Kinsolving pointed out that in 1963 during an investigation of Ambassador College by the Pasadena City Attorney, it was learned that the school's constitution and by-laws, adopted in 1951, restricted the student body "to the race of Israel, whom we believe now to be the white, English speaking Anglo-Saxon and Celtic people, and the democratic peoples of Northwestern Europe, in addition to the Jews descended from the Kingdom of Judah", he said Armstrong appeared surprised and hurriedly said: "That must have been while I was in the Navy. It's been altered dramatically. We have no such restrictions." Armstrongism: The "Worldwide Church God" Examined in the Searching Light of Scripture, Sumner, 1974
"Dennis, You Are a Satan Led Anti Christ. It is The True Christ Who Will Judge You, You Foul Mouth Pervert."
Never needed to offend beliefs
Always hoped to stimulate thinking
I am so grateful to live in a time where knowledge actually is increased and available and where I don't have to take the ideas of others as the way things actually are. It is no coincidence the Dark Ages were dominated by the ignorance of literalism and those ahead of their times in science who feared for their lives bringing reality to their attention.
Definition of catharsis
Examples of catharsis in a sentence
My Cincinnati source has revealed that there is a great deal of fear in the local congregations. You come into church on the Sabbath and your name is immediately put on a pre-printed Church Attendance Form by some brown nosing Church lackey. This form is sent into Cal Culpepper and if you miss to many services - regardless of Health or Wealth - you are suspended. The rule is that you cannot miss more than 1 service a month or not too many in a year. This suspension lasts for 9-12 months if your lucky. If not so lucky say goodbye to your PCG family and friends and say hello to the Great Tribulation and the Lake of Fire.
The men are "encouraged" to attended Spokesman Club. If you cannot attend due to finances or work then you are labeled unofficially as not committed fully to "God's Government" and lukewarm. Many Spokesman Club members from Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio have to drive at least 2-3 hours one way to meet in some VFW hall or rented Motel room. Imagine sitting there for 2 hours and hoping Culpepper does not see you make a wrong move or perhaps slightly nod your head in weariness as you have been up for 12 hours because you got off of work and had a 4 hour round trip commute just to attend Club. Can you imagine getting up and giving a speech in from of Il Duce Cal?
There are ever increasing fund raising drives to make more money for Flurry. One is where they bring in large "Change Jars" right into church and "encourage" you to empty your pockets of any "loose change" in order to support the work. Most of my PCG friends are too broke and actually need every dime they can get with paying 3 Tithes to the Church. But you are told from the pulpit that you "cannot out give God" and the faithful member who sends cash into That Prophet will be blessed in health and finances. Empty your pockets this Sabbath so Wayne Turgeon's kids can Riverdance across the stage and perform for a half filled auditorium.
Every Christmas time in the months leading up to the Holiday Season there is a "Fruit Sale". A very large amount of Fruit is bought wholesale by the Church and the individual members of each congregation are to "sell" as much fruit to their neighbors and family members. In all actuality most people are too afraid of not showing enough loyalty to the Church in this cash raising endeavor and when they fail to sell enough fruit to other people they spend their own money and buy the stuff themselves. Another way the PCG milks their members. Just a backdoor Tithe on people.
Worst of all are the congregational snitches and gossips. You have to be careful what you say, who you say it to, and who is around to hear it. People in the Cincinnati Church are morbidly afraid of ANYTHING getting back to Cal Culpepper. Cal gets the wrong word in his ear about you and you are toast. There is one little snitch in particular named Levi Petiit. Levi goes to Culpepper with every little tidbit of information he can get on a church member. Steve Witt is the local Deacon/Contact Person and he has said that he can't stand Levi Pettit. Steve said that most people dread being around him and try and stay away because they know Pettit is Culpepeprs little spy. Pettit was very new to the Church and pushed hard to be "somebody" with a congregational job or duty. He was heard saying on the way to Spokesman Club that any man who does not attend club should be cast out of the Church. Ahh the LOVE. He also has boated how he was only in the church for a few months when he was put on the Sound Table duties. Wow what a guy.
My PCG friend said that one Passover he had to drive 2 hours to have to attend Passover services. If you miss Passover Services it is like committing the unpardonable sin. Well my friend was driving in a thunderstorm to get there and he hydroplaned and almost wrecked his car. Needless to say he was very shaken up when he walked into the Service. Guess who he sat down next to? Yeah, Levi Pettit. My friend was still reeling from his almost Fatal car crash and he tried to play it cool but you know you are only human. Levi went straight to Culpepper and reported my friend for being "too nervous" during the Services. Culpepper took my friend aside and said that Passover Night is NOT about "being nervous". Levi you nasty little fink. My friend though about telling Culpepper about almost slamming into a Guard Rail at 65mph but thought better of it. That could be interpreted by Cal as a "sign" that God is displeased with you and tried to kill you on the way to Passover. Sick but true story.
There is also a Opening Prayer list of men who are authorized to say the opening Prayer before Services. If you go to Spokesman's Club and your Church Attendance is good and if you are a good enough little Borg you get picked to pray. If you are not looked upon as totally loyal to "God's Government" then you will be passed over to pray as if you are some sort of spiritual Leper. It is all about some sort of sick depraved pecking order. Everyone strives and strains to get some sort of job or title like Door Greeter or Sound Person to make themselves feel good and righteous and that maybe God will not turn them into ashes during Armageddon.
I asked my friend about some of the people I have known from back 20 years ago when I attended. Most of the PCG members in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana are 60+ years old. Quite a few that I knew have died. Some have been put out forever. I asked about new members and he said that there is always announcements from the pulpit that "The Ministry is counseling potential new members". However this "counseling" never seems to produce much fruit as the new members coming in has all but dried up. The retired and elderly are the thin red line holding up the entire Flurry edifice.
For the young people and singles it is almost intolerable. Too many Teens have been put out by Culpepper for seeing "worldly" members of the opposite sex. Going to the High School Dance or a Movie with a Tribulation bound boy or girl is tantamount to spiritual suicide in Culpeppers book. And as a young teen when you get put out in the PCG you just don't sit home while every one else goes to Church on a Saturday - you loose your happy home. Many a teen is sent off to live with a Grandparent or other family members because Flurry's new Disfellowhipment policy has no mercy on anyone regardless of age. Yes some have been put onto the street.
I was outraged to find out that only Black man in the Cincinnati Church was put out by Culpepper. His name is David McClain. He was a super nice guy and he and I talked every Sabbath. He had very bad kidney problems and had daily Dialysis just to keep alive. Due to his Health David was staying with Family members and could not live on his own. However those family members were old WCG people from years back. Culpeper and Aaron Eagle found out about it and he had a choice to either leave his home or be disfellowshipped. David had no place to go and was a very sick man and he was put out anyway with no mercy. I know this sounds like I am making this particularly sad story up just to demonize Cal Culpepper but it is all true. You can't make this depravity up.
In conclusion I think we can say that the PCG of 2017 is a shadow of its former self. I remember 80+ people attending just 10 years ago in the Cinci/Dayton congregation alone. There were quite a few young couples with children and more than average Teen attendance. I also remember of around 13,000 to 14,000 people attending the Feast at Chattanooga, Tenn, Charleston, West Virginia and Greenville, SC. Now at the Feast in Lexington Kentucky they barely had 800 or so in greatly reduced facilities.
I hope I did not write too much info. This is only the tip of what I have heard but if you want more let me know.
One of the more absurd splinter cults is the "Obedient" Church of God. Lawrence A Nowell is the leader of this weird group. Nowell, is much like splinter cult leader James Malm, in that he bellows on and on about being filled with "zeal."
Nowell is also much like the lunatic Neville Steven's, the certified false prophet from Australia who claims his members would be given swords so they could slaughter all of the rebellious sinners of the world, especially the lazy laodicean Church of God members who refuse to submit to Neville. Nowell's little band of nut jobs will also be joining forces with other men to slaughter the unrighteousness."God's Train don't carry nothin' 'BUT' the righteous and the Holy".God's Train don't carry nothin'"but" the OBEDIENT to God! Rev 22:14.Wake up to "be Obedient" to every jot, so that "you" can be carried onboard to the Place of Safety and the Kingdom of God by "THIS TRAIN".PS: This train carries only the 1st Resurrection people.1st Resurrection people do not have to go through the Tribulation, "because" they are already OBEDIENT. Rev 12:14 and verse 16.
As the kids would say: You are all going down, UNLESS you start to OBEY every jot of God's way/Shop Manual/Bible.
Nowell is also a proponent of the new moons malarky embraced by a few of the more legalistic members of the church who come up with everything imaginable for not following Jesus.
WILL be KILLEDHo hum. Blah, blah, blah. This is the same old tired story that the legalists have been spouting for decades. Everyone of them proven liars.
It is always entertaining watching various Church of God leaders calling other Church of God leaders "false prophets" when they have lied through their teeth for decades with one false prophecy after another. Rod Meredith has been one of the main culprits in spreading false lies, though this does not clear the other COG liars like Pack, Flurry, Malm, and Thiel who are equally culpable.
Meredith has an article out in the January/February issue of Tomorrow's World published by the Living Church of God. Like almost every single article he writes, he starts off with negativity mixed with doom and gloom. This time it is geared directly towards the various splinter cult leaders of Armstrongism. These vile men are just waiting to snatch the crowns from LCG members heads. You hear that Almost-arrested Bob Thiel?
These self-willed, vain men may even affect the lives of thousands of you Tomorrow’s World subscribers, if you allow them to. We in this Work have repeatedly taught you the very “way” of life that Jesus Christ taught His own disciples. We have sent out—absolutely free—millions of magazines and booklets explaining the Ten Commandments and how to keep them with God’s help. We have repeatedly encouraged you to embrace the “Original Christianity” of Jesus Christ and the apostles—all based upon obedience to the law of love and the way of God.
EXAMINE THEIR FRUITS!
But, as time goes on, many false teachers will rise up and try to turn sincere people away from the true Work of God. It has always been so. The Apostle Paul had to warn the Corinthian elders: “For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves” (Acts 20:29–30). Jesus Himself warned us: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?... Therefore by their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:15–16, 20).Every single COG is filled with "self-willed and vain men." Just like Thiel, Pack and Furry. Has the church ever had three more vain men? What about the false teachers? Is not Meredith also a false teacher? He certainly has led people astray over the decades. He is just like the other wolves, Thiel, Malm, Pack and Furry. Has the church ever had a more dishonest and corrupt cabal than with these men?
According to Meredith there is no other church on earth who has as much love as does LCG.
Do you notice the one thing that is missing? Not a single word about following that most inconvenient dude. It is more important to keep sabbath and holy days. Apparently Jesus only indwells in those following old event rules.Think! What is the “fruit”—the result—of sincere people being taught to follow the example of Christ and the original apostles? It is a people who genuinely try to love and to serve one another. It is a people who love the Creator God and joyously observe His weekly Sabbaths and His annual Holy Days and—through Christ living within them—walk in the way of the Ten Commandments.
Meredith then tells his followers to not get upset over his many failed prophecies and inane rantings. Besides, his inane blathering are just minor "technical" infallibility's. It is wrong for church members to get upset over such silly things as failed prophecies and inane utterances that Meredith has made over the decades.
By contrast, when a spirit of doubt and discouragement is sown among God’s people, often over minor and disputed “technical points” of prophecy or chronology, the “fruit” is not good. Paul warned Timothy to emphasize “sound doctrine,” telling him to “remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:3–5).When has Rod Meredith ever loved with a pure heart and a clear conscience? Apparently he and his ministers are the most loving, humble, and best examples to their flocks that could ever imagine. More importantly, because these men are so great it is a requirement that members SUBMIT themselves to them. When LCG members submit themselves to the ministry they are humbled.
Meredith then warns his members to be wary of liars and self-appointed false teachers like Bob Thiel, James Mam and Dave Pack. All true doctrines come back to God’s commandments being based on love (v. 5) and service. All true ministers of Jesus Christ emphasize that approach—that way of life. True ministers of Christ will humble themselves and try in every way they can to encourage and to serve God’s people. In his letter—as recorded in the Bible—the Apostle Peter told the ministers he was overseeing not to be, “lords over those entrusted to you” but rather to be “examples to the flock” (1 Peter 5:3). Then, Peter continued, “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time” (vv. 5–6).
Back in apostolic times, when one of the original false apostles began to deceive people, your Bible records that this man went around “claiming that he was someone great” (Acts 8:9). Ultimately, the final great rebellion against God will be led by a vain, self-willed man, “who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4).Have we ever seen to more vain men than Bob Thiel and Dave Pack?
So, when any individual tries to “appoint” himself as an “apostle” or proclaim himself as a “prophet,” watch out! For God warns us, over and over: “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Matthew 23:12; see also Luke 14:11; 18:14).Then Meredith makes a statement that the will surely set Thiel and Pack over the deep end. No one alive today has EVER produced the signs that indicate apostleship or prophethood. Bob Thiel will suffer major butthurt over this.
None of us in this Work, which brings you the Tomorrow’s World television program and this magazine, has ever tried to proclaim himself a “prophet,” or an “apostle.” For the word of God describes the “signs” of an apostle as, “signs and wonders and mighty deeds” (2 Corinthians 12:12). No one living today has produced those types of “signs” to indicate true apostleship—or prophethood! You can read the rest of Meredith's spiel here: FALSE PROPHETS ARE COMING!
In a couple of weeks, details escape me at the moment, there will be a Ambassador College Reunion held in Las Vegas. I assume what happens in Las Vegas won't stay in Las Vegas with regards to this blog, nor should it. Attendees at the reunion are asked to drop the church talk and just enjoy seeing old friends again. I like that. As an add on to the reunion and probably not for the faint hearted is an additional last day sponsored by the original authors of Ambassador Report. This event is completely separate from the reunion and will cover the how and why of Ambassador Report back in the day.
Ambassador Report was the bane of the ministry including my own in my days of naive belief in the message of WCG and by extension, my part in it. I thought it was where I was supposed to be and as corny as it might sound, felt "called" to the ministry for personal family reasons going back to some things my dad told me years after the facts. Nuther story.
I spent many a day and night getting hammered by members who received their copies in the mail. I got my own of course compliments of someone and promptly threw them out. Denial truly is not just a river in Egypt. It was a most confusing time for me personally as a very new minister and pastor in Chicago and then Ohio during the 70's when the corpulites hit the roting wind machine. Between the demise of GTA, the Receivership ("Not many Wisemen now are called" for those who understand) and the Tkaches, Ambassador Report was causing me personally unending stress and conflict of mind.
It was like having molasses on one hand and feathers in the other, smacking them together and then being told to pick out the feathers. Not possible. What a mess.
I recall knowing that the 60 Minutes expose' with Stan Rader etc was coming on Sunday night and I made a point to be out visiting to just keep it off my dreading mind. Of course the phone rang off the hook all Sunday night.
In the hind site of age, change , drama and trama along with dis-illusionment mixed with not a small amount of anger at both myself for being so stupid and naive and those over me who seemed even more stupid and naive or just lying to me, was killing me with anxiety and depression while having to wear the faithful minister mask. My own brother in law, as pastor, who stayed with WCG thru it's change to GCI died of the disease his son said was actually his broken heart over how it all went. He was a very sincere and well loved guy. He gave up the love of his life career, forest ranger in Idaho , to go to AC. I know he regretted that .
Weeks ago, I determined not to go to Vegas for the Ambassador Report portion. I might could do the reunion but time is money for me in my practice and no one pays me for being gone etc. I also got to thinking about what's really good for me personally. Forgo it for the sake of moving on and not having all my past anxieties and memories about those days stirred up, or go face them and learn the story behind the story? There are men who I would love to meet and only know because of correspondence or through BannedHWA and they have expressed a desire to meet. Would it be "fun" or ignite personal issues once again? Would it bring more closure or resurrect unnecessary memories and issues once again?
Currently I am content with my simple life here in beautiful Portland. Simple living , a career where I still work 5 days a week , 40 hours being the caretaker I am and earning every last penny honestly without criticism. I can sit quietly with my 4.5 Billion year old meteorites that were around before the moon formed or there was life of any kind on earth and appreciate what is actually true as opposed to what I naively was led to believe in my youth. It's nice to not even mind being stardust with consciousness studying itself . :) Do I want to risk that banging my head on the table in Las Vegas?
We all handle our experience with WCG and all that occurred and followed differently. At this point I am opting to pass on Vegas for all the above reasons for me personally. I admire those men who took it on back in the day to confront the Armstrongs and WCG excesses at the top and problems with ministers and churches. I wish I had helped them then but I was not the man then I am now. I never thought WCG had a proper vetting process to put a truly caretaking , balanced and teaching type personality into the ministry. ALL the splits, splinters and slivers, Gerald Flurrys, Dave Packs , Bob Thiels, Rod Merediths, James Malms and countless horribly informed men who claim to be theologians is the end result of that and our lunatic entertainment here on Banned.
Joe Tkach Jr reacted very "ain't going to happen" when I suggested personality testing etc for those going into ministry. It took me a very long time to wake up. I stayed way too long for many reasons. I
I believe I will pass as an exercise in good mental health for me and maybe meet the gang sometime in LA in the future. I would encourage anyone to go if it can bring understanding and closure to your own experience. It's not too late. No2HWA can supply you with all the details I am sure if interested.
Well that did not take long. After publishing the story the other night on Rod Meredith's rant on there being no prophets and apostles alive in the church today, I took one of my favorite swipes at Almost-arrested Elisha Elijah Amos Habakuk Doubly Blessed Dreamweaving Chief Overseer Bob Theil. (Apostate Thiel imagines himself as the world's most converted and dynamic prophet ever.) Of course the delusional false prophet took exception to Meredith's words, because HE, Overseer Bob, is the true legitimate prophet of the latter day Church of God. No ministry in the course of Church of God history has ever been as astounding as the improperly named "continuing" Church of God. Dave Pack now whimpers at the mere mention of Bob Thiel's amazing name.
Elijah Habakuk Thiel writes:
While the Bible does warn about false prophets, the Bible also teaches that there will be prophets in the last days and that God will grant them dreams:17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy. (Acts 2:17-18)
Amos Elijah Thiel has a huge hangup on the relevance of dreams in his improperly named ministry. The false prophet talks more about dreams that validate his "calling" than he ever does about that mystery man who was a carpenter from someplace over there.I, and others affiliated with the Continuing Church of God have had prophetic dreams that have come to pass...
Dreams are necessary in the wild kingdom of the Bob's mind. Dreams are just one more tool to "validate" his "ministry." Why? Because Herb and Loma had dreams and the Radio Church of God was the result. Delusional Elisha Bob thinks that his "ministry" will be bigger and stronger than anything Herb and Dave Pack ever dreamed of.
Despite the fact that the Bible shows that God uses dreams and the members of the old Radio and Worldwide Church of God used to accept that the dream from Loma Armstrong was from God, most today do not wish to believe God still uses dreams.
Dreamweaver Bob is still stinging from Meredith's rebuke of him. Meredith was like a Dad to prophet/apostle Bob, and to suffer such a public rebuke was devastating to the soul of Thiel. In the Continuing Church of God, we also do teach AND practice the Ten Commandments–which is not something I can say that Dr. Meredith fully does. He should realize that God’s people keep their word, even when it is not popular:1 Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? 2 Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts.3 Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. 4 Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the Lord, and keep their promises even when it hurts. (Psalm 15:1-4, New Living Translation).
The self-appointed non-ordained false prophet Thiel is demanding that Meredith apologize to him now that Meredith is on his death bed. Meredith is expected to publicly announce that Almost-arrested Thiel is a TRUE prophet, an apostle, that he is DOUBLY-BLESSED, that his dreams are valid and that God loves him more than any other Church of God leader alive today. On your knees Rod!
And as far as I go, yes, Dr. Meredith put out several false and misleading statements about me and he even flat-out denied telling me that he said if he would accept the role of an apostle, he was considering ordaining me as a prophet–even though he did, in fact, do that in January 2009. Plus he broke numerous promises to me related to correcting literature and doctrinal errors that he and others at LCG had acknowledged. He also falsely libeled my character. Yet, I have stood for and told the truth. And Dr. Meredith, if he still has the mental capacity, should realize that, publicly repent, and tell the truth.False prophet Bob also claims that he has all of the signs of being a prophet! Read it and weep folks! It is true because Thiel says so!
As far as Dr. Meredith writing that no one at LCG ever proclaiming himself an apostle or prophet, after he told me that GOD may consider me to be a prophet when I was part of LCG, Dr. Meredith later told me he was considering calling himself an apostle. And when he said this, he certainly did not have the “signs and wonders and mighty deeds” he is alluding to.
The next sure sign of apostle Thiel's prophethood is that he claims his personality cult is growing a 30%. 30% was the number that Herb and crew used to blare out to the gullible church members as "proof" that the church was growing and that God loved it immensely. That 30% moniker was made up by men in the accounting and publishing areas to "prove" that the church was growing exponentially. However, that number has always been in doubt as a department head of accounting said some years ago that they could make any "figure" they want "mean" anything they want. Many of those people were intellectually dishonest. Much like Elisha Thiel. But I did have the biblical signs of being a prophet and he knew at least some of that...
We in the [improperly named] Continuing Church of God have been walking by faith and have had vastly more than the 30% growth that the old Radio/Worldwide Church of God once had and the 15% growth that Dr. Meredith has asked his followers to plead for. We in the [improperly named] Continuing Church of God do have the type of fruits that Jesus said a true prophet would have.
The [improperly named] Continuing Church of God is the only Church of God with this type of growth in the 21st century. This is a fact and is the truth.Read it and weep Rod Meredith!
Rod Meredith is an impotent leader compared to Elijah Thiel. The false property and Mayan authority said that he is adding to scripture just like Herb did. Mayan authority Thiel claims he is adding more truthful details to the mix.
Unlike Herbert Armstrong who restored truths to the Philadelphia era, and Bob Thiel who added more details to those truths, Dr. Meredith has not done that. Nor has he fulfilled the prophetic office. And it was Bob Thiel, and not Dr. Meredith, who was anointed to receive a ‘double-portion’ of God’s Spirit...Gaylon Bonjour never had any intention of doubly blessing apostate Thiel to begin an idiotic ministry based in Arroyo Grande that would be used to deceive sincere African peoples. Those are the people being taken advantage of. Those are the people being lied to and being unjustly used.
God's most merciful apostle ever has been praying for Rod Meredith. The apostate false prophet Thiel has been praying that God would keep Meredith alive long enough:
I have prayed for Dr. Meredith and prayed that he would publicly repent of his false statements. The Bible teaches that the Lord “is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Yes, Dr. Meredith is getting old and will die someday–but God may have kept him alive these past four plus years for him to see that the CCOG is the only COG this century that has had the type of growth he claimed showed God’s blessing. The chief bastardizer of the law (after James Malm, of course) and scriptures is demanding that Rod Meredith repent because his time and the time for humanity is short.
He and others are getting a witness, but sadly the Bible shows that the bulk of the Laodiceans will not repent as they should (Revelation 3:14-18 ). It is time for Dr. Meredith to repent and it may be that his time to do so is getting very short. You can read the long screed by the apostate false prophet Thiel here. It includes 44 "truth's" that set him apart from Rod Meredith, the Laodicean. LCG’s Roderick Meredith, Apostles, Prophets, and the Truth
Here is a great flashback to Gavin Rumney's Missing Dimension site. Just substitute James Malm or Bob Thiel for some of the names and you will see it is still current in its understanding.
We’ve had a bit of fun the past few months in this column examining the teachings of those who hold to the old covenant "revelations" of Herbert Armstrong (and sometimes, "revelations" of their own devising). Simply by using the plain common sense God gave us, and also maybe a bit of logical thinking, we’ve had no trouble in exposing the leaps in logic that the typical legalist must make in order to justify his much-cherished beliefs. For some of us, however, "simply using plain common sense and logical thinking" hasn’t been that simple, especially since our initiation into Armstrongism. In fact, a number of us are still working at getting our common sense, emotional health, and logical thinking skills back to normal. Hopefully, examining the card castles that the legalists have been building has aided in this recovery.
We’ve gotten more than our share of chuckles from the "pick-a-law here"– "pick-a-law there" cafeteria-style approach that legalists such as Bill Dankenbring use in teaching their gullible followers just which of the old covenant laws they need to be observing this month. Most of us are rather enjoying this seemingly endless adventure of following what these people teach to its illogical, unworkable, neurosis-inducing conclusions.
To us, thankfully, it is now readily apparent that all these teachings were never meant to be applied to any other group than the old covenant Hebrews. This is confirmed time and again in the scriptures, for those who have an ear to hear. But those who have been less fortunate in shaking free of the Armstrong influence (or possibly less willing to be freed of that influence?) are still paying a very dear price to continue on in the delusion of being "God’s only true elect." For the practicing of Armstrongism or any other form of legalism by definition brings with it the bearing of a burden and a heavy yoke that God never intended for any true Christian to have to bear.
The more unnecessary weight that these old covenant adherents voluntarily allow to be strapped to their backs, the more burdened down, distracted and short-sighted they appear to become. The deeper they become mired in the task of trying to keep straight the latest "dos and don’ts" of being a "saint," the less likely it seems that they will ever be able to summon the mental energy necessary to recognize the absurdity and futility of their situation. They have been participants in a rigged shell game, one in which they must rely on their leaders to reveal beneath which shell "godliness" resides this month.
These old covenant followers have been taught to focus on the myriad trivial requirements of the old covenant physical laws rather than on the weightier matters – the new covenant eternal law of love. They have been subtly tricked into settling for a lukewarm bowl of watery pottage rather than enjoying the sumptuous spiritual feast with the father that they could have been partaking of. They have contented themselves with building their spiritual house from warped and gnarled tree limbs, obtained from a rot-felled tree and built upon a bed of sandstone, when they could have been erecting a truly solid and permanent spiritual edifice, built from oaken timbers upon a sure foundation of granite.
Their feet have somehow slipped into the shoes of the Pharisees, and they are every bit as unaware of their own spiritual plight as were some of the Pharisees. Just as the Pharisees were, they also have been duped into worshipping the shadow, rather than he who casts the shadow. They have been unable to distinguish between the symbol and he whom the symbol stands for. And the pity of all this is that these old covenant adherents are VERY sincere, every bit as sincere as some of the Pharisees and Sadducees were.
These deceived proponents of the old covenant system desire to serve God, but not on his terms. Due to either a general lack of Biblical understanding, or a lack of faith that Christ’s sacrifice, with nothing else added, is fully able to save them, they have unwittingly turned over all spiritual decision-making to charlatans and misguided teachers. They have blindly placed their confidence and trust in those who teach that the recipe for salvation consists of the proper blend of works and self-sacrifice, seasoned with a generous dash of faith in Christ’s sacrifice. But leave just one of the ingredients out, they are warned, and there is no salvation.
They have unwittingly exchanged Christ’s freely offered gift of salvation for shackles and a yoke, yet they rejoice at having pulled off a wise trade, indeed. It’s little wonder that these people feel that their daily trials and temptations are severe and that they seem to be continually "kicking against the goads." They attribute this to Satan’s attempts to strip away their reward. It never occurs to them that following false teachings also produces the very same "fruits of frustration" and the lack of true peace that they are experiencing. They eventually will be forced to come face to face with a spiritual truism: it is not possible for a false gospel to produce truly good and enduring fruit.
My column this month is directed toward these sincere, well-meaning members of the offshoot churches of the Worldwide Church of God, who by chance may have stumbled across this Missing Dimension website, and this article in particular. They are those who are in various stages of learning the above truism. Admittedly, very little learning usually occurs within the deceived mind without God’s mercy and favor. But hopefully, with God’s help, this column will aid in that learning. My following comments have appeared on a website or two over the past few years, but I feel that they bear repeating to this MD audience.
I acknowledge that these old covenant adherents genuinely and sincerely believe that they are holding fast to the "truth once delivered," supposedly most recently through Herbert Armstrong. I well understand how special and unique they feel, for I used to be one of their number – for over three decades.
The following is not written in a spirit of meanness or bitterness, but in love and with a deep concern for the welfare of those who have chosen to follow Herbert Armstrong’s teachings. As a former devoted and whole-hearted follower of Mr. Armstrong for many years, but one who has in recent years, through much research and study uncovered many unsettling facts, I am driven by the command given us in Ephesians 5:11-13:
"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather EXPOSE them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are EXPOSED are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light."
I thoroughly understand your desire to please God and to hold on to those things that appear to be precious truths that a "blinded" world apparently is unable to discern. However, the Bible warns us that from time to time there would arise those who would produce the "unfruitful works of darkness," and that those evil and deceitful works need to be exposed for what they are.
Any time you have a new religious leader popping up on the scene proclaiming new and extra-biblical "facts," that have been "hidden" for centuries, and claiming to be used of God in a way that no other person in the past has been used, that person is a PRIME candidate to have his "fruits" examined. Let’s take a closer look at Herbert Armstrong to see if his fruits and teachings can bear up under scrutiny in the light of day. I think it will become apparent that Armstrong was FAR from being the great moral and spiritual leader and bearer of truth that he appeared to be.
Just as it was impossible to forever hide Garner Ted Armstrong’s true character (it’s been all caught on video at the massage parlor, so that even his most ardent supporters must at times feel like giving themselves a dope-slap), so it has become increasingly hard to deny the facts regarding Herbert Armstrong that are appearing on the internet, etc. These facts can be attested to by hundreds of former WCG ministers and members from the 70’s and 80’s.
Some have written books, others have written heart-rending resignation letters explaining the cover-ups occurring, or made tapes to explain why they were disfellowshipped without being given a chance to reply to charges (such as David Robinson, Jack Kessler, Marion McNair, Charles Hunting, Richard Plache, David Antion, etc.). If it is true, as the Bible states, that a man can be convicted on the testimony of three witnesses, there exists more than enough testimony and witnesses to establish the true character of Mr. Armstrong.
Many higher-level ministers, who are still employed by the WCG and its offshoots, know of these facts. Ask your local pastor about their veracity. If he was one of those in the know, watch him grow very uncomfortable as he tries to give you an answer that won’t be too upsetting! His answer will probably include the standard comparison that King David committed adultery AND murder and was still a man after God’s own heart, and that hopefully Armstrong repented. (But then, David didn’t set himself up as a spiritual advisor, nor did he continually repeat his sins after he OPENLY admitted them and repented, did he?) Also, be prepared to be informed that "character doesn’t matter – it’s the MESSAGE," whereas formerly, character was everything!
These truths are getting harder and harder to suppress. The wider availability and use of the internet has given the general public much greater access to research resources, such as Ambassador Report Publications (see www.herbertwarmstrong.com/ar), and to valuable web sites such as David Covington’s webpage and the really all inclusive, one-stop-shopping site, "The Painful Truth" (www.herbertwarmstrong.com). And of course, this Missing Dimension website is great for news updates, etc. However, one still has to do careful research to separate fact from fiction, as you cannot assume everything found on all sites is true or even Christian, but much that can be proven is brought to light through these sites and the links they recommend.
The disgusting details of Herbert Armstrong’s 10-year incestuous relationship with his daughter Dorothy – which occurred even as he received "new truth" from God and was establishing the 1st "true church" in 19 centuries, the misuse of 3rd tithe for jet fuel and the refurbishing of top minister’s homes, his plagiarizing of other’s articles, the firing and disfellowshipping of loyal ministers without even a hearing, etc., are now being laid bare on the internet before the world. It’s embarrassing – but just maybe we deserved it. We allowed a man to become our authority in place of God. Jesus Christ worked awfully hard and suffered greatly to remove the need for a physical priesthood; the "veil was rent," and so each Christian has direct access to God .
But the HWA approach was to resurrect the priesthood and insert it between God and the Christian. He particularly liked to remind us that we were just so much stinking rotten garbage in God’s sight, unworthy to even draw breath. We dared not rely on our own minds or instincts, as they were inherently evil and not to be trusted. Armstrong convinced us that we couldn’t trust other churches, or friends or relatives – no one but him – as he understood God’s will better than anyone alive. This type of teaching, although great for keeping followers in line, and complaints to a minimum, is deadly to normal, healthy self-esteem. This teaching had the effect, over a period of time, of destabilizing the minds of his followers, and in many, many instances it laid the ground work for problems ranging anywhere from mild anxiety to full-blown psychotic behavior. It can well be summarized in the following descriptive paragraph:
"The membership never feels completely confident in their salvation, but is always left feeling slightly in doubt. They must continually "give more and do more" or risk losing salvation. They feel that God is watching for them to slip up, and is always planning for their next big "test." They believe that God is continually "sifting" them, and looking for weaknesses in their armor. Mentally, they are always in the "gun lap" and find they can’t relax. Joy seems elusive. Often, members become quiet, submissive, guilt-ridden, non-thinking, non-creative, depressed, alcoholic, anxious, withdrawn, self-conscious, hopeless, aimless, and have nothing to look forward to in life but the dream outlined by the leaders about the wonderful world tomorrow, which is usually depicted as "just around the corner." They are not enjoying "the peace that passes all understanding" but have become mentally frozen in their religion - rendered unable to function, and yet unable to leave. They are experiencing cultic control or "fear religion " at its best (or worst)."
Herbert Armstrong was able to establish authority over us by showing us "new truths,"– one being that we were still under the Old Covenant – the New Covenant would not be established until our marriage to the Lamb. Never mind that Hebrews 8:13 tells us: "In that He says, ‘A new covenant,’ He has made the first obsolete. Now what is obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away." (which it did when the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.)
Years later, we were instructed that even if the Old Covenant had been made obsolete, it would have no affect on the Ten Commandments, as these laws have existed from the time of Adam, and therefore were NOT PART of the Old Covenant. Too bad we didn’t take the time to do a little research – we might have stumbled across Exodus 34:28, which tells us, "So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the TABLETS the words of the COVENANT, the TEN COMMANDMENTS." And we might have even read Deuteronomy 4:13, which tells us: "And He declared unto you HIS COVENANT, which he commanded you to perform, even TEN COMMANDMENTS; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone."
And chapter 5:3 further verifies that "the Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us." If we had done a little outside reading, we might have realized that following the Ten Commandments strictly doesn’t bring righteousness – for one can follow them to the letter and be "blameless," even if we HATE our neighbor. Therefore, obviously, there is a higher law of God.
We were led to believe that Armstrong had more of God’s Holy Spirit than anyone on earth and understood prophecy as no one else did. To quote Roderick C. Meredith in "The Inside Story of The World Tomorrow Broadcast," (p. 17): "This is the ONLY Work on earth that really understands . . . the specific meaning of present-day world events, and the EXACT TIME SCHEDULE OF PROPHECY!" This, in spite of over 40 failed prophecies since 1934, including the 1972 disaster ( HWA said it was not his fault - God had to give us more time, as we didn’t "sacrifice" enough to get the work done)!
We were told that "getting the work done"– our calling – was to pray, pay, and obey so that God’s "true church" could get out to all nations the gospel of the coming tribulation and Christ’s imminent return. However, nowhere does the Bible say this is our "work." Christ himself states in John 6:29, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."
Armstrong loved to quote Matthew 24:14 in support of our commission – "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." He told us this was the reason we were called – to back him up in the spreading of this gospel. Somehow he never got around to explaining why an angel had the same commission. Rev 14:6 tells us "Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth – to every nation, tribe, tongue and people – " Thus the above prophecy is fulfilled by an angel, with no mention of us humans being absolutely necessary for its fulfillment. (See Matthew 28 for our commission.)
We believed he was an "apostle"– not realizing that to qualify, one must have been taught directly by Christ. We would have done well to consider the words of Rev. 2:2: "I know . . how you can not bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who SAY THEY ARE APOSTLES AND ARE NOT, and have found them liars.."
And nowhere does the Bible tell us that the gospel is the proclaiming of the coming tribulation and the imminent return of Christ. The heart of the gospel is not built on prophecy, no matter how attention-grabbing that prophecy might be, but deals directly with Christ and the "good news" of the salvation his death has assured us upon repentance and faith. Our being prepared for Christ’s return and entering his kingdom all hinges upon what we do in the here and now.
Speculating on when Christ will return, what the tribulation holds in store, or what our final reward will be like may be interesting, but it is not the gospel – and can actually detract from the joy and peace brought by the gospel if it becomes a source of worry and fear. Herbert Armstrong, hopefully unknowingly, taught us "another gospel," which the Bible warns against time and again. A study of all the uses of the word "gospel" in the Bible will verify the subject of the true gospel. (See especially I Corinthians 1:17-18 and 15:1-20)
God holds us accountable for whom we follow and what we believe. He has given us the ability to think, examine, research, study and read opposing views before coming to a final decision (this was frowned upon by HWA as allowing Satan into our minds). God has instructed us to "trust no man" but to prove ALL things as the Bereans did . . . to be careful no one deceives us. We overly trusted one man and only studied his chosen scriptures and believed his interpretations. We built upon sand, and now it is starting to wash away. (Could this explain why there have been well over 100 church split-offs since 1970? When the foundation is faulty, nothing with any real stability can be built upon it!) Why is it that we can see everyone else’s deception but our own? I guess that’s the very DEFINITION of deception!
My prayer is that those of you who are still clinging to Armstrongism will take the time to examine these issues (this may involve doing some further intensive research – with an open and prayerful mind), for your own sake and that of your family. After all, the scriptures do admonish us that "he who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him" (Prov 18:13). Maybe, just maybe we've been mired in folly and deception long enough!
Till next time, here’s whistlin’ at ya! ;o)
I have stated quite a few times that I believe we of the CGF have as much or even MORE faith than many of the righteous characters of the Old and New Testaments! I said this with the biblical knowledge that many of the people listed in the “Faith Hall of Fame” of Hebrews 11 had seen, heard, or had some kind of direct access to the Eternal God or His angel or angels. Having visual contact or speaking directly with God would most definitely strengthen a per- son’s faith.
Robert Ardis, Church of God's Faithful
Truth identifies us, but most begotten brethren snared in the synagogues of Satan refuse to examine the new truth that Christ has revealed to the CGF.
Our scattered brethren do not recognize us as the one true Church. That is the reason we have beseeched God our Father to give us the fruits of His Spirit, that Jesus Christ might be manifest in us.
I am a sick, old man and it is difficult even to write this article. But there have been vital lessons I’ve needed to learn, and I think I have learned most of them through my trials of illness. The main point, in my opinion, that I needed to learn was compassion for others in their trials. Therefore, unless there are other things I need to learn, I look forward to the healing that God is going to do for me soon, and for all of us in the CGF. Then, with that wonderful experience, we will be able to go out with the POWER of miracles, signs and wonders, along with compassion and new truth to awaken and make ready the WISE of the scattered brethren.
I have been afflicted with cancer of the bone marrow for seven years. It has been a “thorn in my flesh”! I have admired the apostle Paul for his outstanding attitude concerning his thorn in the flesh. Paul had been given much revelation, but he felt hindered by his affliction. We read of his example in II Corinthians 12:7-10:
A reader here has just posted the following about Gerald Flurry.
Gerald Flurry is his last message has announced that the Throne of David and the stone of Destiny has been moved. The Throne to the PCG with him as the New King and a new Stone being Herbert Armstrongs rock that he occasionally prayed at that they keep on the grounds. This is just insane, blasphemy and at the end of message still talks about buying a plane. It's all about the money for them.
For decades Armstrongism has claimed that the Stone of Scone was the stone of destiny that was referred to in the Bible. The church taught that Jeremiah and other Israelites carried the stone to England. This is also the same stone that Jacob supposedly rested his head on when he dreamed his "ladder dream." This is the stone that eventually made its way into the coronation chair that the kings and queens of England are crowned on. Armstrongism also has claimed that Jesus will return to sit on this throne as a descendant of David, as all British monarchs are supposed to be descendants of.
Gerald Flurry is now claiming that Herb's prayer rock that he has exhibited on his cult compound is now the new stone of destiny. The new throne stone that Jesus will come back to. First we have this creature Dave is calling "jesus" returning to Wadsworth, Ohio to live with Dave, now we have Gerald Flurry with his "jesus" coming to Edmond, Oklahoma to live with Gerald.
The next thing we will hear is that this same "jesus" will be using Arroyo Grande as his new headquarters in an old store front. Oh, wait.....
Can the idiots get any stupider?
Gerald Weston wrote to the membership of the Living Church of God on February 16th. Like all good Church of God leaders it is a letter filled with doom and gloom. It is filled with death, destruction, Herbert Armstrong, jackbooted Germans, concentration camps, British Israelism, and not one original thought from mind. Everything that comes out of the Living Church of God is stuck in the past.
But a man by the name of Herbert W. Armstrong was warning about the downfall of America and the British-descended peoples of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the democratic countries of Northwestern Europe long before I heard any of this from my father. Mr. Armstrong was seeing the world through the lens of biblical prophecy and an understanding of the KEY to those prophecies—the biblical identity of modern nations! Even when Germany was lying in rubble following the Second World War, he predicted it would rise again to challenge the Israelite- descended peoples. And now, from German-Foreign-Policy.com we read the following: “The weekly ‘Die Zeit,’ once considered a liberal journal, carried an article on Chancellor Merkel entitled, ‘Leader of the Free World? Of Course!’ claiming the German Chancellor could even become ‘the savior of the free world’. . . major German media organs again depicted Merkel as ‘US President Trump’s adversary’” (2017/01/26).Weston, like Bob Thiel, Dave Pack and Gerald Flurry have to invoke Herbert Armstrong's name and teachings as validation for their respective groups erroneous beliefs.

Dr. Roderick C. Meredith was an early student of Mr. Armstrong, and he has continued to proclaim the same message: if our modern Israelite nations do not repent, we will be overthrown and go into captivity! Once you understand the identity of modern-day Israel, not merely the tiny Middle Eastern country called Israel, but the descendants of Joseph who were given great promises of incredible prosperity and power at the end of the age, the world suddenly comes into clear focus. As a man from Colombia once passionately told me after reading our booklet, The United States and Britain in Prophecy, “Finally something makes sense. I’ve always known you guys were not smarter than us!”No Church of God leader has ever been as great as Rod Meredith. This has sent Almost arrested Bob Thiel into the major butthurt zone.
Dr. Meredith, the Presiding Evangelist of the Living Church of God, has for more than 64 years fearlessly and powerfully warned where we are heading. It saddens me to tell you this, but he is not well and appears to be coming to the end of his days. His mind is excellent, but his body is not. He and his family would appreciate your prayers at this time. However, he put in place a fine team of men and women to continue this warning, as well as to proclaim the wonderful news of the coming Kingdom of God, the time when Jesus Christ will return to straighten out this mess. That is the time when the true servants of God will be resurrected to assist in solving mankind’s fundamental problems. With Rod Meredith on his deathbed, Weston is gearing up to become the face of the LCG.
I wonder that "work" Weston is talking about? LCG is virtually unknown by everyone. No one knows who Rod Meredith is, what he has said or anything about his message. World governments have never heard of him. This Work will continue with that mission. As Dr. Meredith has always emphasized, it is not any man, but Jesus Christ who is the Head of this Church, the Living Church of God. We believe you are a co-worker with us because you believe in that mission!
Weston will inherit a divided church that will rupture. He will never be able to preach any significant gospel message. No one will listen to him. No one will care.
Weston's "god" is getting ready to wreck havoc on the world. Apparently God has been refrained from wiping us off the face of the earth, all thanks to Herbert Armstrong
God is incredibly patient, and He gives mankind more time than we deserve, but time IS running out. Even though my father foresaw the coming downfall, I doubt that he understood just how morally degraded we have become. Storm clouds are on the horizon for any who have eyes to see. A time of darkness is coming and our time to finish this Work is limited. Please pray that God will open the doors and give us the strength and the courage to walk through them. May God the Father and Jesus Christ be with us to finish the Work He has commissioned us to do!
