United Church of God Joins Up With God's Only Doubly Blessed True Leader To Create New Hymnal

Those aging but fun guys sitting at United Church of God's headquarters are starting to let their ecumenical side come forth!  James Malm will be FURIOUS!  They have joined forces with Almost Arrested Doubly Blessed Bob Thiel to help the Continuing Church of God develop a new hymnal for its members in Africa.

The Chief Overseer writes:
It has taken a lot longer than we originally hoped, but finally we were able to approve a proof of The Bible Hymnal in the language of Kiswahili today.
We would like to thank Aaron Dean, Mark Graham, and others at the United Church of God for their cooperation in providing us their translated music files.
The African people have been abused for centuries by over zealous missionaries placing Western versions of what they think Christianity should look like upon them.  Now they will be subjected to the tunes of Dwight Armstrong. May God have mercy upon them.

Faaaaaaabulous pink shirts will be provided!

The much anticipated men's weekend is here.  LCG men have been letting down on their masculinity, so they are heading out to the woods to pound their chests and beat a some drums as they rediscover what it means to be a man's man.

Apparently the men of the church have been letting down on their masculinity component and its time for the church to step in and make them he-men again.  After all, how can weak effeminate men ever be leaders in Petra or become god's ruling their own planet?

Northeast Men’s Training Camp 2016August 26-28  We live in a time of crisis for men. The role, identity and the very purpose for being a man is being called into question. How do we fight the demise of men... as a man? Here’s one way. Come and be part of this unique program this summer. Our spiritual “boot camp,” August 26-28, is specifically designed to build and strengthen men through eye-opening and interactive learning. We’ll learn what it takes to build bonds of brotherhood, serving God, our family and our brethren. It’s time to stand in the gap and take action against the tide of cultural correctness sweeping over our nation.

See more about the masculinity problem in LCG and the COG's.

BREAKING: Grace Communion International to Move HQ To North Carolina

While we have long enjoyed our home office being located in Southern California, the location in the USA isn’t necessarily a huge factor impacting our international operations. However, when we focus on how we can better serve our US congregations, location becomes a more important factor. Southern California has served us well, yet over time the cost of living has reached the point where consideration has to be given to relocating. It reminds me of an old joke that is still funny every time I hear it. A man walks into his boss’s office and says: “Sir, I’ll be straight with you, I know the economy isn’t great, but I have three companies after me, and I would like to respectfully ask for a raise.” After a few minutes of haggling, the boss finally agrees to a 5% raise and the employee happily gets up to leave.

“By the way,” asks the boss, “Which three companies are after you?” The employee quickly answers, “The electric company, the water company, and the phone company!”

A major consideration for relocation is that we can cut our overhead (i.e., cost of doing business in California) by $500,000 per year. While this may seem reason enough to move out of California, there are other advantages. Our Glendora church property has significantly increased in value; by relocating, we would access some of that accrued equity to go directly into our mission of the gospel proclamation.

Every time I attend any of our regional conferences or visit one of our churches, several members and ministers suggest their location as a great venue for our church headquarters. It is true there are many locations with a lower cost of living.

Another significant factor to consider in relocation is 65% of our congregations are in the eastern half of the continental US.

We are confident we can relocate to an area where the business environment is good for both business and non-profits – in other words a place of economic growth and development. Our management team has been searching for an area with good quality of life and access to more affordable housing for our employees.

After much prayerful deliberation, our Board of Directors has concluded that relocating to North Carolina would fulfill these desirable requirements.

For some, it may seem like an historic move since this is only the third time our headquarters has relocated. Just as our relocation from Pasadena to Glendora ten years ago had virtually no effect upon our churches, this move will be similar. Mostly the impact will be on our staff in successfully relocating.

We are on sound financial footing, and we strive always to be the best stewards we possibly can be. We were pleased when Capin Crouse LLP, our external auditors, gave a “clean and positive” report to the Board in June, 2016. During the presentation of the report, the auditors also shared a “Letter to Management” outlining any suggestions they may have for changes or improvements. The report did not make any suggestions for improvements. The presenting partner shared, “It is unusual to have a letter to management without any suggestions, because we always try to find something!” She complimented management on the Church’s financial systems.

Cognitive Dissonance

In psychology, cognitive dissonance is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time; performs an action that is contradictory to one or more beliefs, ideas, or values; or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values.

The fact is that the Old Testament God is indeed a jealous God, full of wrath and short mercy, compassion and not a God given to "Come let us reason together."

In the original intent YHVH is quoted as "You shall not bring any other gods into my presence, for I the Lord YOUR God am a jealous God." No one then believed there was just one god, just superior and inferior ones as they competed for top god.  Today we say, "Well , ahem...OF COURSE, there is no other God", but to them, there were plenty.

Did these events actually happen?  Probably not as written with the Scribes and Priests of Israel giving themselves a great conquering pedigree in written form to advance their status and exaggerating beyond measure.  Men do that.

Here are the statistics.

How many did God kill in the Bible?
  •                                                 2,821,364
How many did Satan Kill?

10
( In Job) and even these he shares with God, since God allowed him to do it as a part of a bet.
Even as a child in the Presbyterian Church constructing "Temples in the Wilderness" and models out of shoe boxes and hearing these stories in Sunday School, it all  seemed beyond the pale and confusing as to why all these were good stories and what was the point for us?  Some of them were dismissed as merely "Earthly stories with Heavenly meanings." I took that, as a child, to mean, "Don't screw with God." Jesus was taught to be the solution to just about everything in the Old Testament and while his Father slew children in ways too horrible to imagine, Jesus advised the disciples to let them "Come unto me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven." Quite a contrast and relief for sure.  Perhaps he only meant Jewish children.
Yet the stories are horrific. The amount of condoned killing in the name of religion should give one pause as to the cultic nature of the stories, the people and the Book.
As a child it ALWAYS left me wondering just what kind  of a God is this and why I am I supposed to feel good about it and hold it all as sacred text.

It might be easier to accept if we could leave it all behind in the OT and move on to the New. Sad to say, the Book of Revelation reveals a Jesus unlike Gospel Jesus, who shows all the signs of having not fallen far from the tree and is embraced far more often and with far more enthusiasm in the Churches of God as everyone but them getting what they deserve.  From the hymns they sing to the sermons they hear, "Blessed are the merciful" Gospel Jesus is a mere shadow compared to the powerful and Rod of Iron wielding Christ of Revelation.
Recall how you could rarely if ever find any Jesus in the Church's Sabbath School Lessons.
And so they are to this day
It's a shame to not live the life you actually have for one the cultic minded and theologically challenged one man show types imagine for you....send it in.

The date that Christ is to return on has been finalized

It's Time Church of God, has set forth the true and final time table for the return of Jesus Christ.  How many of these people will the COG members have to listen to till they wake up and realize they are being lied to? Dave Pack is a liar, Rod Meredith is a lair, Bob Thiel is a lair, James Malm is a lair, Gerald Flurry is a liar...on and on the list goes.  Self appointed false prophets deceiving the sincere members.  Will we also hear this COG catch-phrase at the end of 2020: "The church was not ready.  Christ has delayed his coming."
Tribulation timeline
We know that in order for Christ to be in the grave 3 days and nights, He was killed on a Wednesday. The only year during the time frame of His ministry that has a Wednesday Passover with the corresponding moon, is 30 A.D.
In our near future, again, the only year that parallels 30 A.D. is the year 2020.
The two witnesses will be killed on Wednesday April 8, 2020, and 3 days later, April 11, Christ returns.
Let's, for the time being, just see how the other prophetic times match up.The span from the Feast of Trumpets in 2016, to the day of Christ's return is 1290 days, thus fulfilling the Daniel 12:11prophecy.
30 days later, (Hosea 5:7) Jerusalem is taken and the witnesses start judging the nations, hence the fulfillment of the 1260 day prophecy of Revelation 11:3.
The last prophecy relating to those days is found in Daniel 12:12, that being: "Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days." It is exactly 1335 days from the Feast of Trumpets in 2016 to the day of Pentecost in 2020.
Like Daniel 12:12, we find in Luke 24:49 where Christ told the disciples to "tarry" which means "wait""until ye be endued with power from on high", which happened on the day of Pentecost.
The 144,000 from Revelation 7:4 will have been taught during the 3.5 years and just like the original Apostles, they tarry until Pentecost when they too will be given the Holy Spirit. Following exactly the pattern set forth by Christ and the Apostles.
The time spans between the Holy Days of 2016 and 2020 are the only years in which they match perfectly with the times dictated by prophecy.

Powerful, Knowledgeable Women Are Not Welcome Nor Are Pesky Kids

Armstrongism has always had an issue with strong women.  Highly educated women were not the ideal for Ambassador College or the church.  Women were to be subservient to all men.  Women came to Ambassador with the assumption they would marry ministerial candidates at graduation and head off to serve in a field church planning potlucks and sewing circles.  Forget ever leading a bible study with other women!

Tom Mahon has been on rant for several years now on how awful he sees the the state of the church that it is in all because of "hireling" ministers.  He has the true answers to set the church back on track.  Just like Malm and Thiel.

He also is getting tired of rebellious children and wild women ruling men.  Women must know their place and children seen, but not heard.

The prophet Isaiah was inspired to write: "As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them"(Isa.3:12). He wasn't inspired to write that as a blessing to the nation but a curse. Today, unless all people have been struck by supernatural blindness, they cannot fail to see that a generation of young people have arisen, who cannot keep their own property nor allow others to keep theirs, and who have abandon all sense of decency and good behaviour. So, children indeed have become the oppressors of the elderly, who are afraid to go out day or night.
The prophet goes on to say: "and women rule over them." That prophecy has also been fulfilled. For today, in almost every home on earth, women rule over men; and that is shockingly true even in so-called Christian homes, where the wife is commanded by God to be obedient to her husband. But when we turn to the media and politics, we see women dominating TV and radio, pontificating lots of vacuous opinions, and running for the high office of president and Prime Minister, Yet, the Apostle Paul, lovely called by his Lord and master, "A Chosen Vessel," was inspired to write:"I suffer not( that is, I permit not) a women to teach, nor usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence"(1 Tim.2:12). Then he added: "For Adam was first form, then Eve." The narrative continues thus: "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."
What does that mean? It means that women are more susceptible to deception than men, and therefore should not be in authority. Yet, In Pentecostal, Baptist and other false churches, women are permitted to teach and exercise authority over men, despite the fact that God forbids it. Now we have babes ruling countries or aspiring to high office. And God allowed this because the world has turned away from him. The Oppression of Children and the Rule of Women.

Why Do COG Ministers Preach About So Many Silly Topics?

I had a news alert today regarding Almost Arrested Elisha Elijah Joshua Amos Doubly-Blessed Chief Overseer Bob Thiel. It was about his latest online sermon. Poltergeists and Lying Wonders.

Who sits around and thinks about poltergeists day and and day out?  Who really cares about levitating chihuahua's in Scotland?

Here are other things that he thinks occupies peoples minds continually.  You will notice how fear based it all is.  Demons, government conspiracies, illuminati, rouge planets, and the collapse of the dollar...where would the church be without such fearful things to worry about?

  • 10 Reasons Not to Vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton
  • Chinese threats against Australia for real?
  • Hillary Clinton, Theresa May, and Isaiah 3
  • Could the Large Hadron Collider lead to destruction?
  • Germany ready for military leadership?
  • America's Day of Reckoning 2017 Dollar Collapse?
  • Forbes' Brexit Monster is the Beast of Revelation
  • Post Brexit Prophecy
  • Can the Bilderberg Group Affect 2017 and Beyond?
  • Is the Universe Expanding or about to Catastrophically Collapse?
  • Planet Nibiru to Destroy Earth by 2017?
  • USA pushing gender confusion
  • Eliminate the $100 bill?
Thiel has also come up with a new gimmick in order to make him look like the biblical "authority" he foolishly believes he is.  Hold up your big thick bible and shake it at the camera and people will know you mean business!

The self appointed lying wonder Thiel is not alone in his fear based topics and embarrassment of Jesus.  Here is Gerald Flurry's latest topics.  Jesus is not even a consideration.  Much of Flurry's articles are militaristic, about old testament "hero's", and loyalty to church government.

Armstrongism is fear based to the core.  Grace, mercy, peace, justice and redemption are not part of the church make up.  Showing kindness to ones neighbor, deliver food to the hungry, helping the needy and being agents of comfort to the hurting are not part of their church plan.  Who needs the words of Jesus when Moses, Jeremiah and Elisha are more important.
When Thiel talks about lying wonders, he perfectly describes himself, Malm, Pack, Flurry, Meredith and the rest of the corrupt church leaders.

Philadelphia Church of God: The Army of Liberators?

$

The Church of God has always found life to be hard a fight to live.  We were constantly battling some evil force as we struggled to advance a few yards towards the kingdom.  Satan was always there in front of us fighting to take as many as he possibly could away from the truth.  Who can ever forget hearing ten thousand people or more at a Feast site singing, Onward Christian Soldiers, Marching Off To War in unison.  It was stirring and unifying at the same time.  We naively thought were helping fight the battle along side Herbert Armstrong as we journeyed onwards to Petra.

Our sermons and funerals were always filled with, "fighting the good fight." Not only was our Christian walk one big continuous battle, but an even larger battle was coming in the future when the wrath of satan would be unleashed upon the world in one final battle of Armageddon.

Of the three larger Church of God splinter groups in existence today, three of them use battle cry as their rallying cry to rake in more money.  Dave Pack has been fighting his personal and religious demons for decades and  has brought that fight to his members encouraging them to be good soldiers ready to sacrifice for the common good of the church.  Rod Meredith is perversely attracted to the war motif and loves to talk in vivid details about torture and other atrocities at the hands of the German Army.  Noting is more gratifying to him than discussing concentration camps, fiery ovens and meats hooks that Americans will be strung up on. Gerald Flurry uses war, battles and fiery judgment to keep his dwindling flock under control.  Notice the latest below by James Brady that was posted on the PCG web site:

Army of Liberators

Here is one final, inspiring thought to sing and march to as we finish our war together. In this evil world, armies sometimes set people free from oppression. The most famous case in living memory is the Allied conquest of northwestern Europe, ending the Nazi menace. American journalist Andy Rooney said the day the Allies liberated Paris was probably the happiest day the world has ever known. The liberation of the Dutch city of Nijmegen by British Grenadier Guards was vividly and accurately depicted in the film A Bridge Too Far. Throngs of deliriously happy people pressed in on the tanks, offering flowers, kisses and hugs, waving Royal Union and American flags, singing in English, “The war is over!” Seeing this film as a boy, I was enthralled. I wished I could jump on a tank and liberate a third-world country from a dictator!
Is that not the role of God’s Church in the near future? Like those troops, we have to fight heroically to be there for those people!
Maybe you have straggled behind at times as this awe-inspiring army, the Church of God, conducts its “forced march” (no resting) to battle. We all have. But we do not want to be remembered as a straggler in the coming battle. As Gerald Flurry writes in How to Be an Overcomer, “What hope we can deliver to the world! We have the opportunity to win a glorious victory that we can savor for all eternity! We will never regret what we did for God … in this end time. That will be our joy forever.”
Song of Songs teaches us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, bigger than our problems and desire for comfort! Empowered by God, this army delivers hope. We rescue entire nations! We fight in an epic war that shakes the heavens and the Earth! (Isaiah 13:13; Haggai 2:6). We march in lockstep, in unity and purpose, fighting together against all odds with valor and heroism.
As Mr. Flurry wrote in the last sentence of How to Be an Overcomer, “Let’s all be noble knights together and thank God that we have the opportunity.” We have the chance to fight as one for Christ and the Father and be an awesome bannered host!
It is this kind of thinking that allows such terrible and physical abuse to run rampant in the Church of God.  As soldiers supposedly unified on the path to war, it is not good to be a questioner, to rock the boat or disagree with the Pastor General.  To do so, destabilizes the ranks and the battle cannot be won.   Christ has had to delay his coming so many times now that even he forgets the exact date, all due to the fact that the membership was not ready.  It had failed to fight the good fight.

If these men were actually Christian that might have the understanding that the battle has already been won. The fight is no longer ours to worry about.  There is a rest that comforts the weary of hear tired of fighting a fight they can never win because they just can't ever measure up.

Matthew 11:30The Message (MSG)

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Were the New Testament Writers Mistaken?

All fundamentalist and literalist Christians have grown up with the following scriptures burned into our minds....
I Thessalonians 4:15-17 "...For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout...Then WE which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air..."
I Corinthians 15:51,52 "...WE shall not all sleep, but WE shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump...and WE shall be changed."
Romans 13:11-12 "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for NOW is OUR salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand..."
James 5:8 "Be YE also patient; establish YOUR hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh."
I John 2:18 "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby WE know that it is the last time."
I Peter 4:7 "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."
Revelation 22:20 "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly..."
Millions in Fundamentalist and Evangelical Churches have grown up with the idea that the return of Jesus, a return which will fix everything that is wrong with everything and reward the true saints, is always imminent. We read the above scriptures as if they were written for us, as it is we who are finally the ones "upon whom the end of the age has come." Unlike everyone before us, we really really are the ones who will see it and be changed, avoiding the reality of physical death.

There never has been, is not now and never will be a shortage of preachers and pastors who just know we are living in the final, absolutely last days. The signs are everywhere and every world event is assigned biblical import and meaning.
In Fundamentalist movements, the tradition goes on and becomes more pronounced as , earthquakes, floods, fire, volcanoes and "unusual" events, or wars and rumors of wars, especially in the middle east rear their ugly heads. If someone blew up the Dome of the Rock, well... there... see, now tell us that Jesus is not a few minutes away from returning.

The most popular New Testament "proof texts" for this thinking among Christian Fundamentalists and Evangelicals, comes from Mark 13 and the parallel passages found in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. These written in answer to the disciples question... "WHEN shall these things be, and what shall be the sign of your coming?"
It's all about WHEN. The "when" is unknowable even if one believes with all their heart it has to be soon. The faithful forget that speculation on the future is always just that. It is not fact. It is not how it will be and all speculation over the past 2000 years as to "when", to date has been 100% wrong.
Far too many Pastor types base their entire ministry on the imminent return of Jesus. One would be hard pressed to find the actual word "Jesus" in any other context in their sermons, articles and pronouncements.
It's all about the second coming and it's all about SOON for the most rabid and judgmental COG splinters. Those who question the wisdom of this mistaken approach to life become the scoffers who nip at the heels of the saints.

"...there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation,"
In reality, "scoffers" are just those who notice that believing 2000 + later doesn't really count as any kind of "soon" we know of on earth.
But running that risk, and with all due respect to the sincere seeker of Biblical truth, I predict that Jesus will not be returning any time soon.
Why not? Because in the very predictions of Jesus lie the fact that he was himself wrong about them. Jesus put a time limit in the context of his own predictions that has long since passed no matter how apologists endeavor to resurrect his prophecies for a yet future time.
"Verily I say unto you", This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled" (Matthew 24:34).
We simply have to admit, at face value, Jesus was wrong and not only DID that generation pass away, but so have countless others that followed. Jesus has not been misunderstood in this statement. He was wrong. Sincere not doubt and it simply will not go into the bible-reader mind that this might be the simple truth of the matter. There has to be another explanation that makes Jesus right in this perspective not 2000 years past.
And there is! We have read it wrong. Jesus did not mean what he said and we can relax. Jesus wasn't talking to those people at that juncture in history.

"This generation" was not the one Jesus was talking TO, but rather the generation that "these things" would begin to happen IN. Whew! It's in the far future and means a future society when all these signs accelerate and come to a crashing finale ending with the Second Coming.
We now have wiggle room to account for the fact that Jesus has not returned yet. Jesus wasn't mistaken about his own times, he was referring to another time.
Gleason Archer, who offers this solutions to the "Jesus didn't mean it would be in his time," notes accurately what we all know 2000 years later.
"Obviously these apocalyptic scenes and earth-shaking events did not take place within the generation of those who heard Christ's Olivet discourse. Therefore Jesus could not have been referring to his immediate audience when He made this prediction..." (Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties, pg 338).
Archer has to say this as he cannot possibly entertain the idea that Jesus was himself wrong in his perceptions of the times in which he lived and his role in those times. Later in the Gospels, authors would lower the expectations of the early Church, who thought Jesus meant them by reminding them late in the game when it was obvious Jesus wasn't coming any time soon that "a day with the Lord is as a thousand years. Sorry, we forgot to tell you that in the beginning." As long as one is incapable of thinking Jesus was himself wrong the Kingdom of God being just around the corner if he did his part, the doctrine of disappointments would have to be addressed as time went on.
And so we simply need to ask a very simple question. To whom was Jesus speaking? From the opening NT texts, it is obvious that the disciples, apostles and members of the church thought it meant THEM and did not get any hint of Jesus meaning anything other than THEM in THEIR time, which was short. The idea that Jesus would "build my Church" came decades after Jesus death when most were dead or dying of old age and yet the end did not come. Jesus never envisioned a Church that would follow decades and millennia after his death. Jesus life would always be lived and lost in the context of Judaism and the Synagogue.
But back to the original question. To whom was Jesus speaking when he said the words and to whom did he mean for it to apply? The answer is within the context, plain and simple.
"Take heed that no man deceive you." (Matt 24:4)
"...ye shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars..." (Matt 24:6)
"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted..." (Matt 24:9)
"When ye therefore shall see the the abomination of desolation..." (Matt 24:15)
"But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter..." (Matt 24:20)
"Behold, I have told you before." (Matt 24:25)
The context in which Jesus spoke was his own. The "you" that he was addressing was the group he was addressing then and the group to which all these things would happen for, and soon. Jesus was telling those disciples that these things would happen in their time. Jesus, or the author who put the words in Jesus mouth,  made a mistake in his perceptions.
In our time, Christians read the same words and see the "ye" and "you" as "me" and "us" just as the original disciples would have. The only difference is that the disciples actually were disappointed and this generation has yet to realize their own disappointment to come.
The proof that Jesus himself meant the people he was talking to is found in the fact that the "this generation" comment is actually the tale end of a much larger, often overlooked quote taken in it's entirety.
"So likewise YE when YE shall SEE ALL these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto YOU, THIS generation shall not pass, till ALL these things be fulfilled." (Matt 24:33-24 emphasis mine)
There is no reason to twist the words of Jesus to mean more than they were ever intended to mean. A scripture can never mean what it never meant. The early disciples and infant Church, knew it meant them and we see the gradual deterioration of their personal confidence in the immediacy of the Second Coming promise throughout the NT.
I Thessalonians 4:15-17 "...For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout...Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air..."Meaning...some would die, but not us who tell you this. Jesus still means us.
I Corinthians 15:51,52 "...We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump..." Meaning...you will die, but we won't but it all works out...Jesus still meant us.
Romans 13:11-12 "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand..." Meaning...we had some doubts, but now we know it's almost here. Jesus still meant us.
James 5:8 "Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh." Meaning...impatience was growing, hang in there. Jesus still meant us.
I John 2:18 "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."Meaning...Jesus still meant us.
I Peter 4:7 "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."
Revelation 22:20 "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly...."Meaning...ok, it's been about 60 years, but Jesus still means us.
Obviously, everyone of these quoted hopes and statements were wrong. Jesus did not return for them and to date has not returned for anyone. Paul and the early church who wrote in his name was just as wrong as the many COG prophetic types are wrong in this time. And it is based on the fact that Jesus himself was wrong which I know most Christians can never come to admit. For Paul it becomes....
" I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."Meaning...Ok, I give up, Jesus didn't mean us, or at least not me. I was wrong. 2 Timothy 4:8-9
...and at best, this will also become the reality for those alive today seeing the imminent return of Jesus in every newspaper and on every turn of the dial in this dangerous and contentious world of ours.
I'm not scoffing. Being accused of scoffing was a label for those in the early Church. The disciples expected Jesus return within days of his death and when they met him in Galilee, even doubted that. Its what you say to those that are becoming disillusioned but the others know that the return is still in their lifetime for sure. Scoffers were undermining the confidence of the early followers and disciples of Jesus. An observation is not scoffing. Observations are based on the passage of millennia. It's a 2000 year old observation. To motivate with fear, false prophetic fulfillment's of non- prophecies, and imagined prophetic accuracy on topics anyone could speculate somewhat accurately about, is simply foolishness and makes the Church, in any form look stupid and ignorant. Jesus said his generation would not pass until the Son of Man be come. He was wrong.
So bent on not allowing the member to even remotely entertain the idea that Jesus was wrong, Paul was wrong and the Church is wrong , it was prudent to shift the blame for doubt to the member and thinker and away from the clergy, and thus we have...
2 Peter 3:3 "Knowing this first, (meaning---we forgot to add this apologetic) that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of....."
No prophecies in the Bible are for people thousands of years in the future. They are for events that are soon to unfold for the people being spoken to .God was always about to fix the current problems for Israel.
The appearance of prophecy fulfilled such as in Matthews 8, "and thus it was fulfilled" statements about Jesus birth is a Jewish writing style called Midrash where the author reaches back into the Old Testament for an old story to tell a new one.  It then appears amazingly accurate to us but it is history written forward. Old wine in new wineskins so to speak.  NONE of Matthew's Old Testaments fulfillments actually mean what Matthew made them mean but that is for another time. Maybe Christmas time....
Obviously, the Church took Jesus words literally for them and not for some future generation. But still Jesus doesn't return to them. This shifts the problem to the scoffers, doubters and those that misunderstood Jesus and not the Church who needs to keep the hope of imminent return going like a carrot before the horse. The Church never entertained until they had to, the idea that Jesus didn't mean what he said about soon. It also implies that this doubt is deliberate and calculated. It can never just be doubt based on evidence and time just going on without any evidence of Jesus return. Even with the temple gone and the Romans more in power than ever, He didn't return. It must have felt for them then as one might say today. "If Jesus didn't return for the Holocaust, what will it take."
The "scoffers will come" scripture was added when it was obvious to the Church that people could and were scoffing. And what some consider scoffing is merely noting that the thing spoken is not so. It's not evil, it's just stating the obvious and putting, in this case, the church on the spot to explain its continued use of imminent return going long. It also lends credibility to Jesus mournful cry at the end of his life..."my God, my God...why have you forsaken me." I expect Jesus really meant that. It was a real shock not to have had things work out as one had supposed. Jesus had done his part. He had pushed the Romans right up to the edge and himself, right up to execution...and still, God did not intervene, sweep the Romans from the earth and set up the Kingdom. Only after Jesus actually died did the followers of Jesus have to rethink it all.

I know... and expect it to be said, "you'll think differently when Jesus returns, or you find yourself in hell with lots of time to rethink your position." I speak in the hope that the average Christian church member won't be motivated and won't tolerate pastors who use the fear of living on this planet to promote their own misguided agendas and speculations. One does not have to see the world only through the eyes of those that speculate on how things are or will be because frankly they don't and can't know.

Self-Appointed Prophet Claims That The Govenment Will Soon Be Attacking Them Because of What They Preach

One thing the church has been really good at is creating a "persecution complex" in many of it's so-called leaders.  They self appointed themselves as leaders, started their own splinter personality cults, and claim to proclaim the gospel message with "authority." Because all of these so-called leaders claim their message is the most forceful and truthful message they will be persecuted for the things they preach.

These so called leaders are so paranoid that they think the entire world is out to stop them. They are persecuted when their magazines are thrown in the trash, when TV/cable stations cancel their programs, and when they are mocked on the internet.

All of them fear that the government is monitoring them and is ready to shut them down.  None of these so-called leaders have been more paranoid than the Almost Arrested Prophet Elisha Elijah Amos Joshua Chief Overseer Bob Thiel.

Today the so-called leader of the so-called Continuing Church of God said:

It is my view that the USA no longer has the type of ‘freedom of religion’ or ‘freedom of speech’ or the freedom to ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ its founders envisioned.
Furthermore, the time will come when the USA, and likely some private companies (probably with direct or indirect governmental pressures), will apparently stop the efforts of websites like this one. As well as our numerous video channels on the internet.
Consider the following prophecy:
13 Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it is an evil time. (Amos 5:13)
The above indicates that even those that are doing nothing wrong will need to be silent at the coming evil time. The times are evil.
Yet, currently, it is still time to:
1 Cry aloud, spare not;
Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
Tell My people their transgression,
And the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)

Which is what we in the Continuing Church of God are doing. We have denounced, not only sins that the world sometimes seems to consider politically correct, but also sins that many claimed 501(c)(3) COGs will not do, because of their own concerns about their political fates and/or fates that could happen if they offended their financial supporters if they told the truth to truly fulfill Isaiah 58:1 (cf. 501(c)(3)? Why the Continuing Church of God chose a better option).

Many in and out of the government have plans and are watching the internet with plans to deal with materials that they some day hope to silence.
And while you might think that if you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear from surveillance, consider that many in the government of the USA consider that not supporting homosexual marriages is an extremist position.
As mentioned before, I also saw someone once on a documentary that stated that people who believed in the millennium could not be trusted and should be considered as potential terrorists. The fact that we in the Continuing Church of God would be considered pacifists, does not change the fact that since we hold to millennial and other biblical views that we will not be improperly classified by government employees with various agendas.
We are getting closer to this time. And consider that until this century (and perhaps theoretically, the latter part of the 20th century), it was not possible to really control buying and selling.  But certainly that ability exist now–and it will come to pass.
I believe that the USA is paving the way for the final European Beast power to spy on people and monitor financial transactions, as well as preaching restrictions.

Just What Do You Mean Astro-Theology?

Just for fun....

Astro-theology was the results of early humans looking up at the night sky in absolute wonder believing that the lights and the pictures they produced were the gods and spirits that ruled their lives. The night sky was their Netflix. For Priests it was the stuff of mysteries and power. Rated X for the masses and any worship or understanding of being punishable by death.
Deut. 7:14
3and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the heavenly host, which I have not commanded,4and if it is told you and you have heard of it, then you shall inquire thoroughly. Behold, if it is true and the thing certain that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, 5then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil deed to your gates, that is, the man or the woman, and you shall stone them to death.…

Revelation 4:5-7
5From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings, and rolls of thunder. Before the throne burned seven torches of fire. This is the sevenfold Spirit of God. 6And before the throne was something like a sea of glass, as clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, covered with eyes in front and back. 7The first living creature was like a lion, the second like a calf, the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like an eagle in flight

Origin:
We have all heard that God's Throne is in the sides of the North.  That's exactly where "The Throne" is located in the night sky. It is on the periphery of the Circumpolar Stars that circle the North Star Polaris as you can see in the first picture of the Constellations in the North.

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heavenI will exalt my throne above the stars of God (2nd Heaven); I will also sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds . I will be like the most high (Isaiah 14:13-14).

In summer, when I suspect the author of Isaiah and Revelation were writing their books and looking up, directly through and in front of 'The Throne" runs the Milky Way, The Sea of Glass.  Opposite "The Throne" between it and the Milky Way lies Ursa Major or The Big Dipper as we know it, made up of seven bright stars or "The Seven Spirits of God."

The night and morning sky are the settings for both Isaiah's vision of Lucifer's (The Light Bringer's) Fall, and John's vision of God's Throne.  The Four Living Creatures, "full of eyes (Stars) in their wings" as we find in Ezekiel have the face of a man (Aquarius-The Waterman-Winter), an Ox (Taurus-The Bull-Spring), a lion (Leo-The Lion-Summer) and an Eagle (Aquila-The Eagle-Winter) or it's just one big coincidence they are equidistant constellations that fall in the Four Seasons.
He (The Son. Sun?)replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
Luke 18:10
Herbert Armstrong LOVED this story and told it every time he felt the Church was threatened by Satan who had landed somewhere near Pasadena and made it his home. It comes from Isaiah 14.
12 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;"
This story was THE proof that Satan used to be one of God's good guys and then all of a sudden, one day decided to be take over everything and knock God off His throne. Local boy goes bad I guess. Well Satan, which term is never mentioned here, former Light Bringer which is what Lucifer means, is now the Prince of Darkness and the rest is history.
What's really going on with this story. Did you know that you see this drama literally take place multiple mornings and evenings of the year. Did you know that even to this day, this Lucifer is mistaken for UFOs or landing lights! Jesus said he saw Satan fall as lightening from heaven as did millions then and billions today if you know where to look. It's a very old story based on a very real observation by humans who made up a story about what they did not understand at the time.

First of all, let's understand that Isaiah 14 is really not about a Satan the Devil as he has evolved into over the history of the Church. A scripture can never mean what it never meant, and this principle applies to Isaiah 14 for sure. In the original Hebrew text, the 14th chapter of Isaiah is not about a fallen angel, but about a fallen Babylonian king, who had persecuted the children of Israel. Later in the context we see he was a man, who died. Now we often hear that this was a "type" but that's slippery ground mostly. Metaphor maybe, but not a type, where we can change a man into a Lucifer and then Lucifer into Satan, never mentioned, and then the whole thing into how Satan came to be the God of this world so send in your tithes and be safe with us. "In the Hebrew text the expression used to describe the Babylonian king before his death is "Helal, son of Shahar", which can best be translated as "Day star, son of the Dawn." The name evokes the golden glitter of a proud king's dress and court (much as his personal splendor earned for King Louis XIV of France the appellation, "The Sun King").
{Craig Lyons-Bet Emet Ministries.} The King here was a man, plain and simple, and for his cocky attitude, he got to die like everyone else.

Lucifer means "Light Bringer" and is a term used by Roman astronomers to describe the planet Venus. Venus has always been the light bringer as it always precedes the early morning sun. It is very bright and very noticeable, such that it has been confused, as noted, for the landing lights of non-existent airplanes. It is bright, but not as bright as the sun of course. In mythology, humans noted this 'god" that preceded the sun and seemed to be racing to the zenith, which in astrotheology is called the place of the "Most High" or plainly put for us today, NOON! Noon is God's throne in astrotheological terms. In Isaiah, this "Lightbringer" went before God, the Most High-The SUN. The highest point in the sky where the sun or anything that shines outside the planet can rise, from our perspective. When mythology and even the Bible speaks of God as "the most High", one can see the deeper meaning that hints at sun worship. The Bible promotes a similar yet different form of Sun/Son worship but that has been lost on most Christians today.
The "Most High"
The planet Venus proved to be an enigma for mankind. It's job seemed to be to go before the morning sun and announce, if you would, it's coming forth. But then, bright as it was and still is, it falls from the sky and descends into the ground, or in mythology, seems to be thrown down. Strange! Not knowing that Venus was an inner planet and all inner planets that rotate with the earth around the sun can never pass over us, east to west as do the outer planets and stars, they had to explain it. Thus we have the the "fact" that this lightbringer, this Lucifer soon be called Satan, MUST have become discontend with just announcing the Sun God, so MUST have said in his heart, "I will become the MOST HIGH." Well that was it for him! The Most High, not willing to give up his throne to this usurper, simply threw him back down to the earth, or apparently so at least as we look on the horizon. After that rather unsuccessful endeavor the dethrone God Most High, we get stuck with him as Satan compliments of the Church, who embellished the story and ta ta!...The mess the world in is explained and it isn't the fault of mankind for the most part. Forever more, we can say, "Satan made me do it." You know, the bright and morning star that tried to become God but lost.

It was mostly the Catholic St. Jerome in the fourth century who mistranslated the Hebraic metaphor, "Day star, son of the Dawn," as "Lucifer," and over the centuries an evolution of ideas took place. Lucifer the morning star became a disobedient angel, cast out of heaven to rule eternally in hell mostly waiting for all Non-Catholics, but later all Non-Protestants too. Now the Church had it's Prince of the Power of the Air, the Prince of Darkness, the God of this world, The Roaring Lion, the Fallen Angel, the former Day star (because if you know where to look, Venus can even be seen in the daytime)...gone bad.
Interesting enough, even Jesus, well the Jesus of Revelation who bears no likeness to the Jesus of the Gospels, identifies himself as the morning star, a term used as a central theme in many Christian sermons. Jesus refers to himself as the morning star in Revelation 22:16: "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star."
So here we have it. Humans could never quite explain why this bright "star" we know as the planet Venus, preceded the morning Sun as if to announce it's arrival, but then crashed back to earth. Very strange! Let's make up a story! This bright light, an Angel, the Lightbringer and minor deity compared to the SUN, really went bad and decided to knock the SUN GOD, and later the SON of GOD, off the throne, which is where the SUN rises to become the MOST HIGH at NOON. God, not putting up with that, simply threw Lucifer, now Satan or the Destroyer, back down to earth where he belongs and humans can get stuck with him until the SON of the SUN God comes back to destroy the works of the Light Bringer now gone dark. Great story! In Isaiah 14, this haughty king was acting just like that in thinking he could knock Israel out of the picture, he lost, was thrown down and died, just like that planet Venus every morning. So don't mess with God's chosen ones!19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet.

In the real story of the real human king of Isaiah 14, we see he dies like all mortal men and is not well thought of for thinking he could challenge Israel. In verse 19 we read, "But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned." Graves, carcasses, pits, burials and oblivion are all features of what happens to humans, not Angels or mini-gods.
So when you see Venus early in the morning when you drive to work and think either a train if low enough or a plane looking for place to land is coming right at YOU , you're witnessing a very old astro-theological story.  But it all works out!

The Most Disrespectful Church of God Dares to Teach About "Respect"

$

0

Leave it to an aberrant splinter cult of the Church of God that is ensconced on its compound in the middle of Oklahoma to lecture its members and children on how to be "respectful." Mind you, this comes from a cult that has disrespected its members so horribly that many have committed suicide.  This is the same cult that told a family to abandon their child at the mall so the state could take care of it.   This is the same cult that keeps employed in its ministry one of the most vile men the PCG has ever had in its midst, Cal Culpepper. A man who has destroyed countless lives and marriages.

Russell Williams writes:
While the world becomes worse and worse, we need to become better and better in our interpersonal relationships both with God and man. “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). That is a command from God to all of us. Recapturing the true value of respect is our responsibility as we prepare to teach it in the soon-coming Kingdom of God.
Interpersonal relationships are not a priority for PCG members, at least when it comes to threats of "government" looming over peoples lives day in and out.  Parents are expected to turn their backs on on their children,  and adult children are expected to turn their backs on the parents, if any of them dare question the Holy Father and Son, Gerald and Steven Flurry.  Members must never show any disrespect towards any minister or upper echelon leader.  If so then God may rightfully strike them down. Bears are the just reward from disrespectful kids.

Disrespect toward God and His servants carries a heavy penalty. In 2 Kings 2 we read the account of a gang of youths who mocked God’s servant, Elisha. They disrespectfully called him “baldy” and mocked that he should “go up” (as in a whirlwind as Elijah had just experienced). They were actually disrespecting God, not just Elisha. Elisha cursed them in God’s name, and two hostile, fleet-footed, female bears came out of a nearby forest and savaged these delinquent hoodlums. They were torn in pieces by razor-sharp claws —a terrible consequence!
PCG is filled with parents that beat their kids and punish them mercilessly. Yet, PCG claims actions of the parents are to be the standards and examples for their kids.  When husbands kick their wives out of the house because a minister told them to, or wives walk out on their husbands because the husband dared to question the Dear Leader or God forbid, Cal Culpepper.  Its no wonder that the young people leave the PCG in droves.
Parents must first demonstrate respect for God and also show respect toward each other. Children will learn more by the example set by their parents than any other way. To parents God says in Ephesians 6:4, “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath [frustration or resentment]: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Show them respect and require the same from them, especially when they are corrected. When an adult asks your children a question, let them answer. Don’t step in and do it for them as if they cannot answer properly or may embarrass you.
The PCG has been working overtime since they bought the Edstone cult compound in England to promote to the PCG members that they are "royalty." The British Royal Family is brought up every chance they can as the standard they need to look up to.  This follows  right along with Flurry imitating HWA in everything.   HWA had portraits of Queen Elizabeth in several places on the Pasadena campus, particularly on the main floor in Ambassador Hall (Merritt House.)
Address another person by name or title, otherwise “Sir” or “Ma’am,” “Mr.” or “Mrs.”—never “Mate,” “Love” or “Hey there.” Do not be presumptuous or take liberties in calling seniors by their first name unless you are invited to, and even then, use caution. Ministers and wives within the Church should be addressed as “Mr.” and “Mrs.”
What child or adult in the U.S. goes around calling people, "mate,'"love,' or "Hey there?"  Even disrespectful kids never say that.  There are no ministers in the PCG employ that deserve to be called "Mr."!  That title is one of respect, and their is nothing respectful about the ministry of the PCG.
Children should refer to and address adults by “Mr.”, “Mrs.” or “Miss,” or by their title. Adults should not invite children to call them by their first name, because it fosters disrespect and encourages taking liberties. Children should be reminded until it becomes natural. Look to the spirit and give people greater respect rather than less.
Don’t talk over others nor focus the discussion on yourself. Remember to “esteem others better than yourself.” Avoid informal replies such as “Yep,” “Nope,” “Dunno,” etc. Uplift others in conversation by listening and keeping it positive.
When has Cal Culpepper, Lil'Stevie or Gerald ever "esteemed others better than themselves?" When?

Talking Serpents and Flaming Swords--Not Your Father's Sunday School Story

"Hi there....."

Genesis 3:

1Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”
4You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

From our youth, we are all taught the story and lessons from the tale of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The story is a Hebrew adaptation  of a Sumerian Creation Myth which makes clear that  "The Knowledge of Good and Evil" as well as "Eternal Life" are perks only for the gods.  El, here in the Hebrew version says as much when admits that if man takes from the Tree of Life they will then be as "Us" and live forever.  Something not for mere men.

The Two Trees contain god-fruit and god priviledges. Thus the panic in Heaven.

Why the Trees were placed in the MIDDLE of the Garden to tempt and highlight only God knows. One would thing such dangerous Trees would be kept under lock and key behind stone walls of their own.  I think the gods wanted them to learn about Good and Evil and their own mortality origins. personally

But in this first account  the Serpent, not yet morphed into Satan as that came at a later time and in other writings, we find the Serpent actually telling the truth of the matter. If you take from the god-fruit, God knows you will not die in that day, as warned, and that you would have the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
(Please let's resist "Well they were to die in the same day as a day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. That apologetic for the on going failure of Jesus to return in the NT is not meant to apply to this ancient account .

First of all, what is wrong with humans having the actual Knowledge of Good and Evil? I can't think of one. Aside from it being a perk for gods only in the story, I'd think that would have been a good thing and saved a lot of pain and misery along the way in the OT accounts of Israel that were to follow. Do gods get irritated to think mere humans can decide in such matters?  Seems like a trait and skill  the human race could have used well and wisely  early on in their history to this day.

Secondly, how can Adam or Eve be held accountable for disobeying if they did not know disobeying was wrong, or evil?

Thirdly, it is obvious the Serpent was in the know and telling them the real truth behind why they weren't to partake of the god-fruit.  God said as much in verse 22.. God and the Serpent finally agree.

1. Eyes will be open
2. Humans will know the difference between Good and Evil

"Bad humans...out with you."

22And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24After he drove the man out, he placed on the east sidee of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life."

The next problem for El (Originally the Canaanite Deity's name) was that if this goes on to stage two, taking of the Tree of Life, humans will live forever.  This is the biggest god-fruit perk and is definitely not  one for mere mortals.  The "US" in this context is El speaking to the El-ohim, or "Council of the gods" of which originally , as shown by the Book of Job, was an original member in good standing doing God's  There was El the one God and  The Elohim, the Council of the gods.
It's why Elohim is "Uni-plural" but not for the reasons Herbert Armstrong said about a gabillion times and in every sermon over and over because that's the only story he seemed to know.

Church of God folk need to get over the "us" being God talking to Jesus or himself depending on your theology.  Context!

Orion in the Skies with Diamonds

To prevent this, further affront, El banishes the couple from the Garden of Edin and guards the "EAST" entrance with an Angel wielding a flaming sword. Even as a child I wondered why they could not sneak back from the North, South or West.?

Orion as seen on any cold and clear Winter night

A bit of astro-theology is in order.  The Angel may have been , to the author priests of Genesis, the mighty constellation of Orion with his raised sword which rises in the East only and sets in the West.  Others think it was the Constellation of Perseus with his sword.  Both rise in the East only and thus can only guard the Eastern side .

It was, after all, a heavenly story with and earthly meaning for the mortals.

The story explains, to the Hebrews, three things.

1. How humans got the knowledge of Good and Evil and it would behoove them to use it wisely.
(Humans evidently can't come up with such knowledge on their own through experience)

2. Humans die but it is by divine decree so that explains death..
(They'd die anyway)

3. You'd better obey and get the lessons of the following 49 books , which are the true Knowledge of Good and Evil ,  written by  MALE Priests and Scribes., or die.

Sometime we'll explain or maybe wonder why Both El and Cain forgot there were no other human beings "out there" to find Cain and kill him when he was driven off for killing his brother Abel and why he was really put out of the camp.

NOT THIS!

MUCH BETTER!

Hint: The El and the Council of the gods liked meat offerings, especially the smell in their nostrils. Vegetables and fertility symbols, not so much. And Priests and Temples run by men rather than women goddesses as in surrounding nations would be the theme to come in the OT. . In with Patriarchy and out with Matriarchy in Israelite religion.

Hear No Evil, See No Evil: Why does the ministry turn their back on abuse in the church?

$

There was a comment made on the blog of the Chief Pharisee today that asks why no one dares challenge the leadership of the Churches of God.   The question that really needs to be asked is why do the leaders in various Churches of God keep silent as they watch Gerald Flurry, Dave Pack, Rod Meredith and others abuse their members.  Why do none of them speak out?

Flurry, Pack, Thiel, Malm, Meredith and many others are NOT their brothers.  These men are not brothers in the faith. They sit there and do nothing as one horrendous abuse after another is dished out upon COG people.   How many more need to die from suicide, die from lack of medical care, have their families ripped apart and marriages destroyed?  How many more need to die in a needless shooting?

Is it because they know deep down that they are just as corrupt but in different ways?

I mentioned to an elder here a few years ago that it is high time for the priests of Baal to be cut to pieces. That didn’t go over too well. I meant of course for them to be cut to pieces verbally. No one who wants to do an Elijah type work should leave this part out! I think that most don’t want to seem offensive to the purveyors of gross error that are partially responsible for the mayhem in the world. Since the proverbial pen is mightier than the sword this can be achieved except for the fact that now we have a lot of subjects that are deemed ‘Hate Speech’.

Did You Get Your Wedding Invitation From Church of God In Truth Yet?

One of the many splinter cults to break off of Armstrongism was the Church of God in Truth run by James Russell.  Russell, like all other other splinter cult leaders believes he has the only truth out there and that all other Churches of God are of the Synagogue of Satan.  Poor Elijah Bob Thiel and Pharisee James Malm!  I bet this burns their righteous lazy behinds to know that they are wrong!

James is so adamant that he knows how things should be that he claims that all the COG's are keeping the Feast of Trumpets on the wrong day.  It was actually last night, August 31. Most Church of God's accept October 3 as Trumpets.  Unless you are Pharisee Malm and you may either be October 2 or 4th.

Russell is also big into the "postponements" malarky.  Those silly Jews set their own calendar and it is wrong!  Only Church of God leaders know the correct calendar!

Russell is also so sure of his message that he has been sending out wedding invitations for the marriage supper with the lamb.
The Church of God, In Truth, has been sending out God’s wedding invitations for the last twenty three years beginning with the first PROVE ALL THINGS NEWS LETTER, dated December 1993. The way things are shaping up this year, it might be the last opportunity to accept God's dated invitation to His wedding . Are you ready? Are you going to be calibrating the wedding on the right date? Or are you going to be like the 5 foolish virgin having to go and buy God's truth [Pro 23:23] after the Bridegroom has come. Many are called, but too many are sitting on a fence waiting for someone else to make a decision for them before jumping to the right side, away from the wrong side! We are told, "Be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Rom.12:2). "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" (I Peter 4:17)
Douglas has this about the COGiT over on the Painful Truth site.
The Church of God in Truth with James Russell? He said himself that “we haven’t learned anything new in 40 years”. He does claim that because the other Churches of God don’t keep the Feast Days at the right time, they will be those described in Revelation 3:9, “Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.” Yes, friends, all the other Armstrongists are the synagogue of Satan saying they are Jews but are not, will suffer in the Millennium while CoGIT members will be God as God is God, lording it over everybody else. With this ‘holier than thou’ attitude, there is no chance that there’s going to be much change: Expect stagnation. If there is an afterlife, someone is in for a BIG surprise! You should all get their flagship magazine, Prove All Things. It’s worth it for the misprints in every issue. For example, a favorite is “Herbert Armstrong Pasture General”. Replete with manure? Watch where you step? They have something every issue. It’s hilarious! They should Proof Read All Things.

UCG Still Struggles To Make Its Self Relevant

The minutes are out of the latest Council of Elder's Report.  Here are some of the highlights.
Chairman Ward welcomed everyone. He commented on the smooth transition from the previous chairman, Robin Webber, to himself as chairman. Mr. Webber has cooperated in every extent of the word and so has Gerald Seelig, the secretary. Transitions can have rough edges, but he thanked them both for helping make it go smoothly.
God forbid if they ever actually elected a newbie to the elite circle of men who keep rotating though this position. It's the good old boys club that never lets in the newbies.

Then they announce how mind-boggling spectacular the Ambassador Bible Center is.  This is almost as superfantabulous of Dave Pack's group!  This is UCG's pathetic attempt at imitating Ambassador College.  The ABC "college" only has 23 students!  Yes, you read that right...23.   Millions of dollars are being dumped into this failure, but no worries, gullible members will continue to support it with their hard earned tithe money.
Ambassador Bible College (ABC) will have 23 students begin classes next week. They are still waiting to hear about the student visa program for approval. New faculty members will include Scott Ashley, Randy Urwiller and Gary Petty.
23....sigh.

Every Church of God needs a piece of fine art in its lobby.  After all, Herbert did it, so why can't they?
The home office has seen improvement with new carpeting and painting and lighting in the entry way, hallways and conference room. There is also some new furniture. Much work went into it with a lot of work by Tim Sipes. Other improvements upstairs were done as well. There will be a glass sculpture designed with the Church’s Mission Statement for the entryway, to be completed soon. Mr. Kubik was thankful for the faithful service of all the home office employees, and he commented on the family atmosphere that is there.
Let us guess...a lion and lamb?  A crystal mosquito net in honor of Vic Kubik? A UCG minister on his knees washing the feet of a member?  Well we all know THAT will not be the subject of the sculpture! A crystal Mystery of the Ages or the US and BC in prophecy?

Next up, make sure you order your very own static cling window decal so you can advertise Beyond Today as you drive around town.  People will be sooooooooo intrigued that they will stop you and ask you questions.  Brethren, it is an evangelistic tool!  Every UCG member must show their loyal support of the rather pathetic TV show and print rag.

Beyond Today window clings: We still have a supply of Beyond Today car window static clings for ministry and members to apply to their car rear windows. They are available to be shipped to any pastor who requests them for his congregation. They are also going to be provided at all U.S. Feast sites at the literature and information table.
Check out this article about how sneaky and deceitful the Beyond Today program and magazine are:
Beyond Today Magazine, United Church of God and Herbert Armstrong.

Next we come to a rather interesting admission:  UCG members just are not sending in as much money as they used to.  UCG is just as good at spinning numbers as their mother church was.
Fiscal year-end: The Church’s fiscal year ended June 30. For the year, Church income exceeded budget by $250,000; but it fell short of fiscal2015 income. It was also noted that year-end cash balances and total assets for the Church were higher than they were in the previous year, for the fourth consecutive year.
UCG is buying more church buildings in the hope of making themselves part of the "community."  I hope they do due-diligence in checking out the contributors who will give them a lot of money.  UCG does not need a repeat of the Bluefield Church building that was built and paid for by a woman who embezzled money from the bank she was a manager at.  UCG had to surrender title to the building because the government was auctioning it off in order to recoup some of the outlandish sum that was embezzled.
Assets: The Church completed the purchase of the Portsmouth, Ohio, church building on Aug. 12. The Church also took ownership of a donated parcel of land for the church building in London, Kentucky. A complete listing of all the buildings and land owned by the Church was distributed.
7.4 billion people exist in the world. Millions have been spent on advertising on TV, Cable networks, Apple TV, Roku and other streaming devices and they added 95 new members.  95!
95 baptisms so far in 2016, which is 38 more than at the May meetings
UCG has been stagnating for quit a while.  All of their media campaigns have failed.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars spent to being in one potential new recruit.  There used to be twice that number at certain WCG Feast sites!
Average U.S. Sabbath attendance for June 2016 was 7,459. Attendance remains steady with no upward or downward trends.
Only Jelly can rescue the church, apparently.

Jesus King of the Jews vs. Jesus Son of the Father. Who goes home?

Is it just a coincidence that the two men brought before the people by Pilate, one to be released and one to be executed, were both named "Jesus"?   Is it just a coincidence that one was called by the Romans "Jesus King of the Jews" and the other Jesus Bar-Abbas or better yet, "Jesus Son of the Father" which is what "Bar-Abbas" actually means?  Is it a mere coincidence that one Jesus is a POLITICAL JESUS and the other is presented as a RELIGIOUS JESUS?

Are these two men in a story to be taken literally or are these two titles of one man called Jesus, one political and called a King and the other religious and called the Son of the Father?
What's with this enigmatic story of Pilate offering to free a Jesus King of the Jews or a Jesus Son of the Father?  Rome had no custom of releasing prisoners at Passover as far as we can tell.  They certainly aren't literally going to release a seditious zealot with a nice name.

Something else is going on in this story....

I'd like to suggest that the Pilate of the Gospels, not behaving like the real Pilate of history is testing the crowd as to their loyalties to Rome and Caesar .  This man Jesus was dead meat. He was going to die.  There was only one man standing before the crowd but this one man was either religious Jesus, which Rome had no quarrel with and would "release" without a problem, or he was a political Jesus who the people viewed as King and that was a big problem for Pilate and Rome.

Which one do I give you and which one do I kill. Is this Jesus your religious Jesus or is he your King?

Be very careful how you answer citizens, or I'll kill you too

Jesus  Before Pilate
Matthew 27
11Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
12When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” 14But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesusb Barabbas. 17So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.
“Barabbas,” they answered.
22“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”(Messiah was a rather military title of the day in radical Judaism and Zealotry)  Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”
(Good Answer)
26Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

It is well understood by scholars that Barabbas's first name used to be "Jesus Barabbas" in earlier texts.  However....

Barabbas's name appears as bar-Abbas in the Greek texts of the gospels. It is derived ultimately from the Aramaic בר-אבא, Bar-abbâ, "son of the father". Some ancient manuscripts of Matthew 27:16–17 have the full name of Barabbas as "Jesus Barabbas" and this was probably the name as originally written in the text.[12] Early church father Origen was troubled by the fact tha
t his copies of the gospels gave Barabbas' name as "Jesus Barabbas" and declared that since it was impossible he could have had such a holy name, "Jesus" must have been added to Barabbas' name by a heretic.[13] It is possible that later scribes, copying the passage, removed the name "Jesus" from "Jesus Barabbas" to avoid dishonour to the name of Jesus the Messiah.[14]

Wikipedia "Barabbas"

This tale is a literary creation of the Author of "Mark" which was later copied by the author of Matthew for his story of Jesus.  Actually Matthew copies approximately 94% of Mark for his book and Luke about 54%. Obviously not eyewitness accounts but rather just copying others.

John adds the telling and proper response of the people.

6As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”
But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”
7The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”
8When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 9and he went back inside the palace. “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10“Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
11Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”
12From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar."

Correct Answer:  He is our religious Jesus but not our King.  Don't kill us all.

So what we really have here is not a story that is literally true, but a parable of sorts, a literary construct the readers of the day would have well understood.
There was just one Jesus in this story and this Jesus was either "The King of the Jews" or "The Son of the Father" Rome did not care about the religious Jesus and would more than happy to "release" him in the story.  But a King Jesus of the Jews?  NO!  He dies and you all die if you claim him as your king.  Their answer was clear. "We have no King but Caesar" and thus the crowd passed the test.  Religious Jesus , Jesus Bar-Abbas, was "released." Jesus, King of the Jews was executed and the appropriate sign was placed above his head.

Matthew 27:37
"Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is Jesus, the King of the Jews."

And the Jews of Jerusalem lived on 40  more years until Vespasian and Titus scraped them off the face of the earth and destroyed Jerusalem and it's Temple for sedition against Rome.

So don't take every Gospel story literally. The Pro-Roman authors may have had a bigger message for the locals of that time with  a healthy dose of "Let him
who has ears to hear understand"

You have no King but Caesar

The Accuser of the Crazy Self-Appointed Ministers

Today started of with one of the most hilarious posts that Bob Thiel has posted in a long time.  The Almost Arrested Elisha Elijah Joshua Bob had an epic millennial melt down this morning.  His delicate doubly-blessed sensibilities were apparently severely tweaked by a post on this blog.

The post that sent God's end-time, self-appointed prophet over the edge was:

Hear No Evil, See No Evil:

Why does the ministry turn their back on abuse in the church?

Gary Leonard, the webmaster at the Banned By HWA site (an anti-Church of God website), seems to relish in posting false accusations and innuendoes against me and others.
Why do I think that?
Well, in my personal case, for some odd reason he likes to lump me in with others he apparently detests and then asserts that I have the same flaws he claims others have.  For example, here is something he posted yesterday:
The question that really needs to be asked is why do the leaders in various Churches of God keep silent as they watch Gerald Flurry, Dave Pack, Rod Meredith and others abuse their members.  Why do none of them speak out?
Flurry, Pack, Thiel, Malm, Meredith and many others are NOT their brothers.  These men are not brothers in the faith. They sit there and do nothing as one horrendous abuse after another is dished out upon COG people.   How many more need to die from suicide, die from lack of medical care, have their families ripped apart and marriages destroyed?
While I am not aware of all the details of the others listed above regarding all the alleged abuse, I would like to comment about myself (But as far as various positions and actions by the others listed above, readers can read the following articles Teachings Unique to the Philadelphia Church of GodWhy Not the Restored Church of God?Error-Ridden James Malm Not Doing an Elijah WorkRoderick C. Meredith’s Accusatory Letter to Bob Thiel, and What About the Living Church of God? Are there Doctrinal Differences with the ContinuingChurch of God?
In the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) I have repeatedly worked to NOT rip families apart, but to strive to keep them and marriages together (though not all who are married wish to listen). None I am aware of in CCOG have died from suicide, though that happens in and out of COGs.  And although I personally strive to avoid mainstream ‘medical care’ for myself, I have never taught members to not seek it if they wish. And I do care for the brethren (and pray for them daily).
So Thiel claims he has makes an effort to never break families apart.  Well good for him.  The problem remains, which was the point of the entire original post was WHY do the ministers of the various COG's sit back and say NOTHING and DO NOTHING when they see the horrible abuses going on in the Philadelphia Church of God, the Restored Church of God, the Living Church of God and elsewhere.  Unnecessary deaths due to medical prohibitions, suicides due to aberrant teachings of sick ministers/evangelists, pedophile ministers who are mollycoddled by the big boys.

While Thiel may not do these things, the fact that he self-appointed himself as a splinter cult leader after a bitter row with his idol Rod Meredith makes him just as culpable of spiritual abuse as those who physically, and mentally abuse their members.

God no more appointed Bob Thiel as an end-time prophet/church leader, through the blessing of Gaylyn Bonjour during a simple prayer, than Dave Pack was personally educated at the feet of Herbert Armstrong.   Just because Thiel and a disturbed woman in the Southern Hemisphere had some nightmares, which they assume came from their god, it no more makes Thiel a prophet than the dream of my cat being made Supreme Leader of the Planet Argon I might have had several months ago.

The false prophet then writes:
Gary Leonard is an accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10), and often a bearer of false witness (Exodus 20:16).
Accuser of the brethren?  If anything I would say accuser of the corrupt, self-appointed, lying  ministry that DO NOT represent God in any manner whatsoever.  Ministers who teach aberrant heretical doctrines that enslave their members and actually work to turn them away from the grace and mercy of the Jesus, that most inconvenient dude they claim to follow, yet know nothing about.

From taking tithe money from struggling members for their own benefit or to use it to publish theological mishmashes of heretical doctrines.

Its the brethren that suffer and pay the consequences of these lying prophets.  For a church that claims to be restored first century Christianity, that has made a cottage industry out of mocking Christianity and its various divisions, it has turned the lives of hundreds of thousands of members upside down over the last eight decades.

Bob Thiel is no more a prophet or agent of God than Gerald Flurry is.  I can say that in confidence and with no fear of pissing off the god they claim to follow.

It's not the brethren who are accused.  It is the snakes in the grass that occupy self-appointed church positions that lead 3.8 million visitors to come here to find out about and comment on how they are abused.  Of course self-appointed prophets claim those people have bad attitudes and everyone should ignore them.  We have seen how well that has worked over the last 20 years as tens of thousands have left the COG.

Thiel is like Flurry, Pack, Malm and Meredith.  They all have an obsession with having religious status in the church.  They want to be seen as the revealers of truth and store houses of exclusive knowledge.  Every single one of them are self-appointed, whether they like it or not.

Thiel is an addict.  A religious addict, which is just as destructive to the soul as alcohol, sex and drugs.

Religious AddictionAnything that can alter our mood can become addictive. Religious behaviors can certainly alter our mood. Is that a good thing? Of course! Just like sex and food and work can alter our mood in positive ways, religious behaviors can also alter our moods in positive ways. But can religious behaviors also become a problem—become addictive? Absolutely. It may be easier to imagine what religious addiction looks like if you think about extreme examples such as religious suicide cults or religiously motivated extreme self-deprivations or self-injury. Our experience, however, suggests that religious addiction is much more common than you would conclude from looking only at the extreme cases. A wide variety of religious behaviors have the potential for mood alteration and therefore the possibility of becoming addictive. Evangelism, worship, personal spiritual disciplines, church attendance, service, and many other behaviors that are important and praiseworthy in a general sense can be subverted by the addictive process into very harmful and destructive parts of our lives. This is an important point. Just because prayer is good does not mean that addictive prayer is good. Just because worship is good does not mean that addictive worship is good. Just because evangelism is good does not mean that addictive evangelism is good. The addictive process can destroy the most precious of God’s gifts to us. Except perhaps as loose rhetoric, even getting “addicted to Jesus” is not the solution to our problems with addiction. Addiction to Jesus is just another addiction. God’s desire for us is not that we find the “right” addiction—Jesus. God’s desire is that we find a way to live without being addicted at all. Sobriety is the solution, not being in an addictive relationship to God. The addictive cycle in religious addiction follows roughly the same stages found in other addictions. The process begins with preoccupation. We alter our mood up by thinking about, focusing on, obsessing about our next religious experience, the next evangelism opportunity, the next worship service, the next retreat or whatever. This preoccupation, while it may alter our mood up may also distract us from important parts of life. In most but not all cases, religious addiction also involves a major element of ritualization. Our pre–acting-out behaviors can become elaborate in religious addiction. We may repetitively recite memorized prayers or biblical texts, we may engage in what seems to others to be very Godly or pious behaviors. Eventually our preoccupation and rituals lead to some kind of religious acting out. As we have already emphasized, the specific behaviors that are part of the acting-out stage can vary. Evangelism addicts may experience an enormous rush when approaching a stranger with a presentation of some kind, and with even more of a rush if the stranger responds positively. Worship addicts may experience profound mood alteration when the “Spirit descends.” But all addicts eventually find that their addictions lead to a stage in which their mood is altered down. In some cases, questions or doubts may trouble us or even plague us. We may become obsessed with whether or not we have done well enough. Shouldn’t we try harder and do more to stay out of trouble with God? We may leave church on Sunday to face the next week determined to live the Christian life, only to return the next week and hear once again that it wasn’t good enough. And for many, even if the reminder doesn’t come this week at church, it comes readily from the echoes in our hearts and minds of past religious training. Addictive religion never leads to soul rest. It always leads to trying, trying harder and trying our hardest. It always leaves us tired, frustrated and depressed. Just like addiction to alcohol and drugs, the acting-out mood alters up, while the entire cycle mood alters down.   When Religion Goes Bad: Spiritual Abuse

Bob Thiel needs to set the right example and be the first Church of God leader to seek counseling with a licensed therapist  for the mental issues that lead him to think the is called out, set apart, and God's personal hand-picked representative on earth.   I would suggest that Bob check out some licensed Christian therapists in Arroyo Grande that can help him work through his addiction to self-made religion.   Christian therapists would at least have some communal understanding when it comes to religion.

Am I an accuser of the brethren? No! Accuser of lying, deceitful, abusive ministers?  Yes!
